Maeby (aka: Beepsy, Choop-choop, Kitty B, Maebers da Baebers)

7 years ago, I pulled Maeby and her 3.5 week old siblings out of an abandoned car with the help of my brother, my then-boyfriend/now husband and my uncle. My brother and his wife Kelly took home one female, then I hand-reared the other two to health. I had been on the fence about keeping the sickly runt of the litter ("Maybe I'll keep her, maybe I won't.") and also had been watching Arrested Development at the time, hence the name "Maeby". She was scared of absolutely everything - quick movements, loud noises, Mila, Rowan - but as sweet a cat as they come by. She was also seemingly perfectly healthy, but over the weekend she passed without any apparent reason.

It should go without saying that I'm heartsick and confused. I plan on having a necropsy performed, because I simply cannot understand what happened. She was the picture of health, then went to bed and never woke up. It makes no sense. None at all. She was a good little cat.

So much different than dogs, but still the same. Bless you both !

I'm so very sorry my friend. She is such a pretty little thing. Cats, in all their weirdness and high-maintenance-ness have such a tendancy to work their way into our hearts.

I'm so sorry - she's a beautiful cat!!

I hope you get some answers as to what happened..........but I have to imagine that for her, simply falling asleep was the best way for this to happen. She wasn't in any pain. She didn't need a stressful trip to the vet. You didn't have to make any decisions........but you didn't get to say goodbye either. Again, I'm so sorry!!

You gave her a chance at a beautiful life, and a beautiful loved life she had.....not sure anyone could ask for more. Sorry for your loss Kristen.

So sorry to read this and at such a young age and no warning. Hopefully the necropsy will provide a answer. Maybe with such a rough start in life, there was a under lying health issue that you had no way of knowing about. RIP Maeby.

Oh how sad. What a beautiful kitty she was and how lucky are you to have shared her life. But instead of thinking about her as Maeby, I'm going to look at this photo and think of her as Shurly, because she surely was fortunate to have you.

Kristen, I'm very sorry for your loss. It's doubly sad when we lose them quickly and for no apparent reason. I hope you can get some answers. :(

Just got word from the vet: hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. She likely went quickly and there was nothing we could have done. It's apparently one of those "silent killers". Healthy cat, and then gone. Just like that. I feel better for at least getting an answer. Now to contact her siblings' owners to warn them to get their cats echocardiogrammed. It's highly hereditary. Hopefully her loss won't be for nothing entirely.

Very sorry for your loss Kristen..
My Annie cat has unclassified cardiomyopathy. At first they thought it was hypertrophic, but the echo showed otherwise.
I'm glad you were able to find out what happened..
