Lost our boy Brutus

We lost our boy Brutus this week to bone cancer. He was diagnosed in late April, had surgery in May and a few rounds of chemo. November he had a check up and was all clear. We thought he really might beat it... Then it came back fast and furious in late December. Monday he was fine, acting normal and trying to eat on his baby sister's highchair tray, and by Tuesday the tumor hit his spine and he could no longer walk. We made the horrific decision to put him down. Hopefully the best thing for him, certainly the worst thing for me.

We spent all day together on Tuesday. We gave him pizza and ice cream and and sat with him all day crying and remembering all of the good times and snuggling with him as much as we could.

I miss him so much it hurts.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your boy. It is so hard when one of our special babies leaves us. Sending lots of hugs...

So very sorry for your loss, you both fought very hard. It is so very hard to say good-bye for now (cause I can only accept it that way) Just keep in your heart, that you'll meet again and know what a reunion that will be.

Thanks to all. It's so hard to get used to. Brutus used to sit my the back door when he wanted to come in. He would never scratch or bark or let us know in anyway, so we got in the habit to look out each time we walked by the back door to see if he was there. I cannot stop looking for him. I have this fantasy that he will be there one of these times and I'll realize this was all just a bad dream.

On Saturday I was walking around the block with my kids and just as we got back to my house there was a man walking by with a puppy newf. I have only ever seen one other newf in our neighborhood in the whole 10 years I've been there. The man graciously let me snuggle and play with the little 4 month old girl. He told me her name, but I keep referring to her as 'Therapy'. Sad as I was telling him about Brutus, there is nothing like a puppy to bring smiles. Her sweet face and silly tail was just what I needed.

I wish Brutus had been there to ignore her (he never liked puppies!) and scare the man. I think he was in denial about how big and hairy she will get :) He was like, "They don't really shed that much, do they?" Hahahaha
