This morning Leroy discovered that the big round thing in the middle of the backyard is a pool.:uhoh2: The pool has been there for 10 years, Leroy has been here for 18 months, I knew sooner or later he would discover it, but I wish it wasn't at 7am, in the winter, with the cover on.
(above ground pool that has fencing all the way around, deck that has locked gates)
Here's the scene: wake up let the dogs out, 5 minutes later go downstairs to let the dogs in, first 2 come in but no Leroy, which isn't unusual because he likes to stay outside in the morning until it's time to eat. So I go to head back upstairs but then I thought maybe I should check to see where he actually is, maybe around the side of the house out of my view. Walk outside but no Leroy, walk a bit farther and something caught my eye, It was Leroy's head and he was swimming in the pool. My heart dropped, There was ice on the top of the water on the pool cover and he had fallin through. I panicked because I didn't know how I was going to get him out, there was not a ladder in there, I screamed for my husband and Leroy just looked at me, put his paws on the pool rim and I pulled the fence a bit and he squeezed out under the fence. Thankfully!
I am assuming this is the same way he got in, under the fence.
I am so glad he was ok, and all I keep thinking about is what if I wouldn't of went back out to check and see where he was. Would he of figured out how to get out? would he of got stuck under the cover? The pool is only half full, but there was alot of water on the cover from the melting snow and we hadn't drained it off yet. Needless to say, now it is drained and the area where he got in is blocked off, but I still keep checking on him every 5 minutes to make sure he hasn't made a second attempt. If he does the cover will come off and stairs will go back in.
