Headstart Visit (picture heavy)

Very picture heavy. Tried to upload link to album and this is what came through! We are on a monthly schedule to visit several Headstart programs. This one had two sessions, so Journey visited in the a.m. and Star went to the p.m. group. All children are four years old. Next month they'll send us to a new school and we'll rotate through all of them, then start the cycle again. A nice change from the hospital and the dogs were so very, very good. Oh yes, Star and Journey slept very well that night!

Oh what wonderful photos and Star and Journey are gorgeous! The children look like they fell in love with them too. Thanks so much for sharing. This just makes my heart sing to see Newfs doing what they do best......loving.

The smiles on the children's faces say it all! How generous of you to share your big babies with others! Were you visiting reservation schools? Good for you & Star & Journey! Love their bibs!

Thank you for your kind words! Our community borders the Navajo reservation, so many (but certainly not all) of the children in this program are native. Sadly, on so many reservations dogs run free, wild packs develop, vaccines are unaffordable for many with pets, etc. We like to bring the dogs into the schools so the kids are exposed to trained, clean (OK BIG) animals and learn about safety when greeting dogs. Some years ago we did a summer program for elementary school kids and they taught Blizzard how to roll over. After the first few tries she got the hang of it and then each child gave her the command and reward. After about 20 kids she had "over" down flat!

Thank you, Ronnie! Before we visit, the school sends home notices for parents to sign, including a media release. This also allows any child with allergies or other dog issue to be in another room during our visit and gives us permission for snapshots. I have not put these pics out anywhere else but NN. One photo taken from behind the kids (no faces shown) is on my Facebook site, but the huggy, snuggy pics are only here.

The four year olds are a hoot. We've been asked if Star or Journey "ever gets to take her sweater off?" and "do they wear their bibs to sleep?" and "do they have to eat lima beans?" and "why do you take them for a walk, can't they do it themselves?" and "does her tongue ever roll up and stay inside her mouth?" And then there was the serious little boy who asked, "if they poop big after they eat, why do you feed them?" :!rolling:

Star certainly is living up to her name. Thanks for the "kids say the darndest things" point of view. Love it.

What good babes you have! Seeing the looks on the kids faces has given me my warm fuzzies for the WEEK! I think I'm going to be checking back periodically, just to make myself feel good :) Thanks for posting!!
