Groomer always late

I finally found a mobile groomer that I really like. She does a great job with Jack and dries him completely. She charges $150.00 (takes her about 3 hours). I tip her $50.00 for a total of $200.00. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way, is that she is ALWAYS late. She schedules me 6 weeks in advance and gives me an appointment with an hour leadway, say between 10-11 or 11-12, AND always arrives 20-30 minutes late. Maybe I am missing something but making $200.00 for 3 hours work, I would bust my butt to be on time. I won't say anything, just wanted to rant! And who knows, maybe someone can clue me in if
I AM missing something.

P.S. I work from the home as as seamtress and because she hooks up to my electric, it blows a fuse in my basement where I work. So, it ends up costing me even more money because I'm then behind on orders. Just can't win and want to add, it has just been one of those days.

that would also erk me, but it is likely due to the fact she has other clients taking longer than she expected. See if you can be the first one she does.

total of $200.00.
Maybe the client before pays $300. :)

I think it is just society these days. Commitment and common courtesy means nothing. I have terminated friendships because commitments were made, an not kept....and no call either.

We just had a MAJOR remodel project. It was so refreshing to have a contractor show up when they said, and called if they got delayed. That is very rare around here.

I have to admit that I am a stickler for punctuality. I'm early for everything! But in your case (especially since she's a "mobile" groomer), I (personally) wouldn't get upset over 20-30 minutes. You don't know what they've encountered with the previous groomings and/or traffic in the area, etc.

Maybe the groomer is on Nfld time ( 1/2 hr past Atlantic). Sorry! just a joke. I'm still recovering from the fact it costs $200 to groom one Newf, and thinking, Huh, mine would then cost $600 to do.
Yes, I would either find another groomer, or, being cheap like me, learn to do it myself!!

I have tried to get an earlier appointment, she always wants to schedule me between the hours of 10:00 and 12:00 am.

Thanks for the laugh about the $300.00. I needed it. : )

I used a groomer for a while that I took Jack to. She charged $50.00 but sent him home wet, and I found that 4 days later, he just would stink badly like wet dog. Then she gave him razor burn on his head under his ears. He hated it whenever we went into her shop. I have no ideal what she did to him but I got the impression she wasn't gentle at all. Her and another lady would sit on either side of him, bothing cutting....several times he came out lopsided. : )

I am afraid to try anyone else after that.

Has anyone used Pet Smart? I have heard that do a good job with a reasonable charge....

If you are happy with the was your dogs looks & the dog is happy to be groomed by her, that's most important. I'd talk to her in a non-confrontational way about the punctuality issue.

I've used our local petsmart, and I will say that it really depends on who you get. One time, I brought Ada in for a bath, and she was done in an hour. Came home wet, and it didn't look like she'd used the prescription shampoo I'd sent with (and broke out soon after). Another time, I brought her in, and the woman took 3 hours to bath her. Came home completely dry. I have, since that point, always made sure to schedule her with the second person, and we've had very good results.

Are you guys still in the Coatesville area? You have Newf Net's own SueM up the road. Sue's specialty is Newfs and all of her grooming equipment is Newf Size. Puddles gives SueM two big paws up!

Louise, do you have a number for her or does she have her own shop?

WOW! Thgat's a Lot of Moola for one Newf. While I take mine to a Very Good Groomer about 10 minutes from where I live, she owns a duplex, and one side is the house and the other side is her grooming studio. This is what I pay:

3 Newfies 2 Poms = $200.00

While I think it's nice that you have her come to you, not $200 worth. Sorry JMHO

Why would you tip someone that much when they are always late and using YOUR utilities? That's a 33% tip... I live on long Island, a ridiculously expensive Place to live, and I have never paid $150 to groom my newf.

I have used Petsmart, but Indy did come back a little wet. The nice thing about Petsmart is you can watch them while they groom. :D

I will NEVER take a dog I DON'T like to Petsmart. My experience when I brought a dog in was that "THEIR" grooming policy ONLY allows them to cut a dog "THEIR" way. I brought them a "How to Groom a Newf" set of instructions. I was informed by the "Head" Groomer, that Petsmart cannot take customer preferences on how to trim a dog. Their Corporation Policy only allows them to trim a dog "Their Way." After finding out what "Their Way" was I was shocked. They were going to cut feathers, what they thought was excessive tail, and use a furminator on the Newfs. When I explained I did not like or want a furminator touching any of my dogs, they said basically tough bananas. I told them they wern't touching my three, and the head groomer was pissed because I cancelled. She was whining that she had set aside half a day for them. I told her something I can't repeat on this fourm in deference to the nice people here, about what she could do with her coplaint.

After some other people commented on how their dogs were done, I won't even take them for a bath and brush.

I had a mobile groomer come to the house and groom Chance once. It was $90 and I gave a $20 tip. He came out after 3 hours gorgeous and dry. I've never used Petsmart or Petco for grooming. I took Sydney to Petsmart to have her nails cut - never again. I told them she has hip dysplasia and they were trying to wrestle her up on the table. Then they tried getting her to lay down, using force. I stopped them and said thanks anyways but I'll try at home. We got out of there as fast as we could. According to the groomer where I work now, most groomers at these places are new graduates from school. I know they have to start somewhere, but I will pass.
