Is it me or does anyone else spend more time cleaning the hair out of the Dyson, of the rotator or emptying the canister then actual vacum time?It may not lose suction but it barely handles Newf hair! Frustrating....I bought two of these sh###y things!

Boy do I hear you! I hated my Dyson so much, that I gave it away and went back to using my 40 year old Electrolux upright. Now I only have to cut the hair off the rollers and toss the bag after two or three times of vacuuming, not every 5 minutes. If I get another vacuum, it will be a Simplicity, which is half the cost of a Dyson. Yes, a Dyson does suck! LOL

I adore my 4 year old Dyson (purple, ball, animal) but I do have to empty the canister at least once each time I vacuum. This tells me it's working. :)

We have a yellow ball that does a great job. It's 4 years old as well, and we have Elvis and 3 cats. We empty the canister once per floor when cleaning the house.

I've had a purple Dyson (neutered variety, ball-less) for five years now. It works great and I cut less hair out of the beater bar than with my Kirby. (I've had up to five Newfs at a time.) That said, I probably have less carpeting than most, so I use the wand for wrangling up the fuzz-puppies (a distant mammoth cousin to a dust bunny) before I actually vacuum. I would probably get another Dyson when this one dies.

I have the purple ball animal for at least 3 years, not problem yet; we have no carpet in our house. Will put a Nutone central vacuum in when I get around to it, now they have power!

Love my Dyson! I have the purple animal one and I empty the canister when I get done vacuuming before I put it away. Only have to clean the beater bar occasionally.

I can't stand my purple dyson animal either have had problems with it since the second time used after buying it 5 yrs ago. We put so much money into it that I felt guilty pitching it so have removed hair after sweeping each room (yes I have carpet in every room but two and they have throw rugs because our lab had HD and needed footing) not to mention after every room have to empty it too. I run the sweeper at least 3 times a week sometimes more during shedding season.

We did buy a bisal that was supposed to be great for pet hair, but made the mistake of pulling the brush onto the cord while using the extension and it chewed the outer cover down to the wires. So I had to bring that nasty dyson back in from the garage, again as much money as we put in to it I put it in the garage to clean out the truck. The bisal was just as bad about needing to stop and remove hair and dump canister too.

Thinking about the simplicity but am afraid to put money into another one that won't take care of the hair.

My biggest gripe is the canister isnt a large as it initally appears, shouldnt have to empty after every room, the constant cutting away the hair is annoying. I must vac everyday, sometimes twice because i have a little one on the floor, bunch of kids and i love the look of freshly vacumed carpet..picking up the hair isnt the problem.
I was just so disappointed in the constant stop and start routine. Hubby suprised me with another before i had the chance to tell him i hated it...to keep oneupstairs.
its interesting how dependong on the list your on, the Dyson opinions very greatly.
I have a Nutone, here when we purchased the home, cant find anyone close enough to come service it! !! Ughhh.:grrr:
Im gonna have to sneak one of the 150 dollar Sharks in the house.:whistling:

I just bought the purple ball dyson animal. Hated it - had to empty it three times for one room, cord was too short and it tried to eat my shag rug. Exchanged it for the yellow ball dyson multifloor and have had much better luck with that.

Has anyone tried the Roomba? The robotic circular one that moves all over the house while you are gone? I wonder if it's strong enough to pick up Newfie hair...

ooh! I hope someone has so I can get the answer too! We're looking at getting one just to help out. The newf will make animal #5 so I'm not expecting miracles, but something to pick up some of it so I can pull out the regular vacuum every few days instead of every day.

I have a Roomba. The most expensive, top of the line Pet Series, in fact. Do. not. buy. it. It works great...until your Newf grows in its adult coat. It's a great little vaccum, particularly for hard flooring, but not for a mature Newf household and especially not for lots of carpeting/rugs. It's more for dust bunnies and cat hair...and even with just dust bunnies and cat hair, you have a TON of daily maintenance with a Roomba. If you neglect it for even one day, the thing will have a meltdown and you can actually break it. And replacement parts are expensive. Ours is now 100% retired. I really ought to just sell the thing....

I have an old dyson and its so much better than the more modern ones.

I think they are one of those hoovers you either love or hate . The trick I found is have one upstairs and one downstairs and yes I do get fed up cleaning the rollers but havent found a decent secondhand hoover that picks up as well.

Sorry your having that problem, I do love my Dyson, 5+ years now. Only carpeting is on stairs, so I don't have to do the beater bar often.

Best thing about my old Electrolux is that I had a couple of parts break and they still make them. So ordered and for about 8 bucks, I have a vacuum that works like new. They don't make stuff like that anymore.
