Dyson...ughhhh

I love my Dyson 25. Only occasionally do I have to get the Newf hair off the beater bar and I have 7 Newfs in the house. More often I'm having to cut out or unravel yarn it sucks off of the partially chewed area rugs. (I must buy area rugs monthly. Pups are a killer on them.) I just added the Dyson canister to make vacuuming under furniture, moldings, and stairs easier. The upright is far better for the rugs, but so far I like the canister. I also have a far pricier Miele which isn't nearly as good. I have to toss a bag every few days and those suckers aren't cheap...

I love my Dyson, empty after vacuuming the first half of the house and then after the 2nd half. No problem, clean beater bar probably once a month. 7 dogs headed by the Newf. Had a Roomba and if you think the Dyson cannister is small you have no idea. That thing held about a shot glass full of dirt. And, you were supposed to pick up all the electrical cords off the floors. Not.for.me

My floors are wood and ceramic. I use a ShopVAc! Works great. Actually, I have two smaller ones on each level, and a big construction size. Probably not that good on carpet. :shocker:

We bought a LG Kompressor vacuum from Sears a few years ago. Love it since we only have to empty it 2-3 times a month and we vacuum almost everyday!
Daddy does at times have to remove hair or rug pieces now and then from the beater but not to often?

I did get a Rhomba a couple months ago and I would definitely recommend for anyone with hard floors. We have one Newf and another dog with similar coat. I don't use it on carpet so can't comment.

We love it!! It won't replace a vacumn, but does do a sweep of the rooms... picking up dust, dirt and yes the dog hair! I run it before I go to bed it docks it's self and runs on a timer again at 1AM. I have a container full in the morning to dump in the trash. I do have to clean the brushes and wheel every couple days.

I think of it as someone coming through and sweeping the floor for me twice a day. I don't see the balls of hair gathering on the floors any more.

The thing I HATE HATE HATE about my Dyson is that the gear that drives the belt for the beater bar gets caked with hair like 3 minutes into using it and it starts shrieking because the belt is slipping...and to clean it you have to remove the whole bar and belt, get in with some needle nose to pul the hair off the gear, reassemble the whole thing and start vacuuming again only to repeat the whole flippin process again 5 minutes later!! My wife starts cussing and I catch the brunt of it...love the vacuum but HATE that they didnt do a better job sealing the area around this gear!!

Is the ball one a different design?? I cant believe that everyone isnt having this same exact problem!!! I mean we spend 30 minutes vacuuming and at LEAST 2 hours tearing apart the vacuum every weekend!!!

Our purple Dyson ball just got its 2nd new head in 7 months. Thank goodness for a good warranty and being free to fix!

We have the shark professional and it has stood up to Turner and Willow for the past two years. We have a 7 year warrantee on it just incase but it works wonders for us. The beater bar is a pain but we only have to clean it out monthly. Not bad for a $200 vacuum. Also Turner and Willow are shedding like mad lately.

Purple Dyson here and could not imagine not having it !!! I do have two of them though. One for upstairs and one for down stairs. No carpet on main floor and I have to empty after each use but that is not a problem to me. I do pull the hair off the bar after every use.
The Roomba I had was a total waste of money !!!!!

IF any of you that hate your Dyson happened to get it at Costco....no matter how many years ago you bought it, they will most likely still take it back. They have an amazing return policy, typically. (A friend of mine recently returned an 8-year-old couch, no questions asked!)

It's screaming now so I have to take it apart find some tweezers and remove the hair from inside.

Thanks for this prior post! We were getting ready to throw out our 7 yr. old Dyson because it just kept screeching on the carpets. I read about this drive and told my husband to check. Sure enough...it was loaded with hair and strings. It ran quietly for 5 min. then started up again. It was loaded again. We couldn't understand why it never did this in years prior. My husband then admitted he bought the generic belt for Dyson which was thinner. We paid the $8 for a Dyson belt and it's running quiet. I will post back if it starts screeching in the future. You saved me $500 for another Dyson.

We just bought another dyson animal and parts to fix our other one we own. I LOVE ours and would never dream of not having it. I've tried other products and so far, none work like the dyson. The trick is to suck up the big balls of hair with the stick to cut down on the hair getting stuck in the brush.

After my purple ball Dyson (Animal DC25) broke down for for yet another insanely costly repair, I tossed it to the curb after barely even two years. Bought the Shark Professional Upright (bagless in white) a year ago and it's been everything that the Dyson was not. Low maintenance, maintains suction, doesn't cost me a $115 cleaner head every 8 months, etc. Love, love, love it. And for only $200 versus nearly $600...I won't care quite as much if it craps out after 2 years.
