Dryers, revisited

Ok.....if you were only going to buy one dryer, exclusively for that purpose and not using it for shows or anything else, would you buy the K-9 II or the K-9 III, given a chance to do it over again? Discuss.

I LOVE my K9II and it is sufficient for us. We go to the cottage a lot and carrying the K9II is ok, but I wouldn't want anything bigger. I find it plenty powerful.

Well, we just broke down and bought the III, but I had a hard time deciding between the two. We haven't decided whether to show Liz or not but finally decided that the price wasn't a huge difference and we all know the likelihood of Liz being our only newf is nil. :) Plus, I'll make David carry it, ha!

I've never owned the II, but I use our K-9 III dryer every day (our dog walker loves letting them swim). I only carry it from the garage to the driveway, so I don't need it to be too portable. I just need it to be powerful!

I only paid for a $5.00 raffle ticket when we won our K-9 III. Best 5 bucks I ever spent. Cuts drying time, and with 4 Newfs swimmin, K-9 III is "the man".

BTW - Yesy I would buy that raffle ticket all over again!

I have the K9 III- Love it...it's super powerful but honestly it is so heavy and bulky that it's difficult to transport. It's also LARGE so it takes up a lot of space while traveling, etc. So in all honesty, it gets left at home more often than not. Remember, the III also requires a very high powered outlet- which I didn't have at the time so I had to pay an electrician to come out and install it's own outlet- another 100 bucks. That's if you want to use both motors which is the whole point of getting the III- the power. Honestly, if I could do it all over again I think I would buy the K9 II. The drying time difference cannot possibly be that much different- and for all the reasons listed above I think I would prefer it over the III.

Get the K9III, and you won't need to get a better one in a few years - as that's already the best :)

I can't say anything about the III because I've never used one, but I really like the II. I can get Seamus slightly damp in 45 minutes and also blow hair and leaves off the deck while I'm at it! I'd guess it weighs between 10-12 pounds, so it's not too much trouble to travel with. I've taken it to the beach and the cabin with no difficulites. My brother in law thought I was nuts when I brought it out to use on Seamus and his lab. He is now ordering one for his dog!!! I don't think it will work any less better when I get our second newf. I would definitely buy it again.

Well, Mike has seen us already pop breakers at shows with our K9II's and have to run with one motor on the II. I can't imagine having a III at a lot of the dinky show sites we're at. When my K9II goes out going to get another II.

Anyone happen to have both and say if they can tell much difference in all actuality between output of them? Since I have two newfs, do I need a K-9 IV? :) :)

I've blown a breaker with the K9II (or the Circuiteer II, which is what I have...same thing)...but only if certain other things are going at the same time. Like the oven, or the clothes dryer. Otherwise, I'm fine.

I have to run my K9II in the GFCI outlets at home. Shows is where have problems at dinky show sites. Bigger show sites usually have been ok. I have a 2nd dryer I take to dinky shows.

I've never heard of this dryer. My dryer is 10 years old; it takes about 45 minutes to get BossMan totally dry. It's portable, on wheels and easy to maneuver, is an Air Force Express (4.0 hp). Cost me about $200 or so ten years ago. Guess the dryers are much more advanced these days. I probably won't invest in a new one as my 4 year old Newf may be my (next-to) last Newf. (Yeah, right, I'll be saying that until I move to a retirement home.....)

The K-9 III is a more powerful dryer than the K-9 II and is well worth the few extra dollars especially for drying newfs. The K-9 III is only 4 lbs heavier than the II. My III runs ok from a regular outlet, although I did have an upgraded outlet put in originally. It can also be run from an outlet that runs a microwave or clothes dryer.

Most regular or standard outlets are 15 amp outlets and most things will run on these outlets. Kitchens will very often have 1 or 2 outlet that are 20 amps. That is what is need to run must microwaves, dryers and I think refrigerators. A 15 amp and 20 amp outlet will look the same to the naked eye.

If you run an appliance that requires more amps than the line is rated for it will usually pop the circuit breaker, if it doesn't you run the risk of a fire starting in the wiring. 20 amp lines have a heavy gauge wire to carry the higher demand for electricity in the line.
