Does your newf plop?

I have noticed that when Oliver lies down in the house he plops. He is not graceful about lying down what so ever. He does not circle around and around looking for a comfy spot or even slide into the lying down position. He really just walks and throws himself down on the on the hardwood floors where ever he decides to stop. It almost seems like he is even louder at plopping when he is in “pout” mode. He has done it since he was just a little guy. One day my mom was over and Oliver was in the other room and plopped down. My mother said "what was that loud noise"... "Oh that is just Oliver lying down". I keep thinking to myself "dude you are really going to hurt yourself by doing that."

I should try and on video. It is really kind a funny. Do any of your newfs plop or plunk?

Yep, and we often get a big grunt with it, especially from Chance, who's 12. LOL

When they're pouting we get a huge sigh. Then the flop. Then another sigh. hahaha

Oh yes! As a matter of fact that's how I can tell whether or not she's outside pottying or inside somewhere. If I don't hear random thuds, I know she's out :) (she spends a large part of her day plopping and changing her mind about where she's plopped and getting up and plopping elsewhere!)

Fergus goes down slowly and lets out a long "sssssssss" We call it his air brakes.

Yep, Darcy plops. Kind of gets halfway down and then drops and lets out a big sigh - now I'm going to call it the air brakes!

Yep, here too. Thought it was just Kenai being a pup and not being "graceful". Glad it's normal to Newfs.

I just asked my husband the other day if he thought Morris was hurt somewhere because he grunts when he plops. Sounds pretty normal, huh?! What about yawning, does everyone's newf yawn with the loudest most dramatic sound you've ever heard?

I've only had Rosie for 5 months, but that's one of the first things I noticed about her. She doesn't lay down, she slams down. Only time she lays down slowly is when we go down for the night. Circles 3 times, and then lays down slowly.

my two slide...it doesn't matter if they are sitting or standing. we have all wood floors and she could just be sitting there and all of a sudden the back end slides backwards and down they go...with snoring within minutes.

Zeus' former owner said that the reason he has such bad arthritis in his elbow is because that was the leg he landed on each time he plopped down as a pup. He is very lame but his down is much kinder now. Because of his size he still lands with a thud.

Ben must be abnormal, he carefully lays down. I swear it takes him a full minute to lay down.
No, not abnormal. Zeke is the same way. He will start shaking as he S L O W L Y lays down. He shakes because he is keeping himself from Plopping down too fast. :shuffle:

When Gitche was a puppy I used to think the sigh was a sign of frustration, but its just her way of relaxing I guess.
