Does your Newf have to sleep near you

I read the thread about "sleeping arrangements" and it came to my attention that Avlon has always slept where ever I am. Like I said in my post, my basement is finished and always the coldest part of the house. Summer 68 degrees....Winter 60 degrees. Avlon only goes down there during a thunderstorm, fireworks or I am running on the treadmill. She nevers goes down there on her own. My bedroom is like 73 degrees in the summer. If I tried to get it to under 70 my electric bill would be 1K a month and I can't afford that. She sleeps in the master bath on the tile where it is cooler. What I am getting at, is she will sleep in a warmer room to be near me. For the people here whose Newfs sleep in the coldest part of the house, how did it come about? I feel bad that the 3rd floor is the warmest part of the house and she sleeps there b/c I am up there. We are thinking about installing another ac unit for the 3rd floor, but we maybe moving in a couple yrs. A window unit is not allowed per the homeowners assoc. That's a whole different subject b/c I live in a single home :(

Not all. Everybody has their sleeping spot. Some are near us, others aren't. Cole and Molly want to be where it's coolest, but Cole is up in our bedroom and we've adapted it to make him comfortable.

Molly likes her Kuranda bed...which is in the mud room. Mira wants to be in her "room" (the mud room too), which she claimed 6 years ago. Chance and Addie want to be in the Family Room...on the tile, in the AC with the fans blowing.

Frankie is stuck with us, for the moment. LOL

Ours are splattered all over the house. They migrate to wherever they're most comfortable. But since we have so many, from the time they're little, they aren't with us 24/7 since we spend time with all...so they find their comfort zone and claim it.

I have two that HAVE to sleep in the same room with me, and two that I MAKE sleep in the same room with me....or else there will be after-hours garbage can raids and general mayhem!

Scout's sleeping routine is always the same...on the bed with the kids for a while, on our bed for a while then off to the bathroom floor which is between the two rooms. I think our bed is too soft for him to stay all night, but sometimes I wish he would!

I posted in the other forum - Sully has his 'spots' and he definetely goes wherever it is coldest. His crate was in our room, but it was way too hot for him in the Summer. We moved it to the basement where it was cooler, for a few weeks, then just let him loose in the house. He NEVER sleeps upstairs, and he RARELY goes upstairs. He will go up there once in awhile if we are up there for long periods of time, to see what we are doin, but really we are usually downstairs and only upstairs to sleep most of the time. So he either is sleeping in the basement, or in the main floor tiled bathroom around the toilet, or on the main tiled floor on the AC vent. The upstairs is also carpeted, and he definetely prefers tile. In the beginning he would come up in the middle of the night to 'check on us' by licking our faces to death while we slept. One time he somehow closed the basement door himself in the night so he was sleeping upstairs - restlessly. He was in the main bathroom, then by my side of the bed, then in our tiled bathroom... then settled into our tiled shower stall! However I think in the middle of the night he forgot he needs to get out by pushing the curtain out of the way - he started whining and crying, I found him in there and 'freed' him by pushing the curtain out of the way. Our upstairs is probably around 75 degrees at night.. if we made it cooler we too would have a high bill every month. I think he would still go to THE COOLEST place anyway, as that seems to be his thing. But we shall see where he sleeps once Winter hits and it is cooler everywhere in the house in general!

Mickey usually sleeps in bed with us;
Merlin has been sleeping downstairs, I think he does not want to climb the stairs anymore due to his arthritis maybe, he just likes the cool tile floor maybe; Tiki is a roamer, sometimes sleeping with Merlin, sometimes by the door to our bedroom, you never know where he will end up; None of our Newfs like the bed, on Mickey the border collie has claim to our bed.

lol I know. You should have seen how HAPPY he was when he saw me and I freed him from the stall. It was like he hadn't seen me in weeks!! I think he really thoguht he was stuck in there in the dark. I feel as though he was like ah.. finally a nice cool spot... peacefully fell asleep, woke up in the pitch black (theres no windows in there and the curtain would block any little light that there was) and thought to himself... Where am i?? How do I get out of here?? And the whining began.

Tug sleeps in the kitchen, in his crate under the table.
The bedroom is the cat's domain.
I'm sure Tug would love to sleep near me; when I fall asleep on the couch he's right up beside, on the floor.
And it's too hot in the bedroom, anyway. I can barely stand it!

This time of year, Snuffles pretty much sleeps in the basement. He will now and then come out of the basement in the middle of the night, and sleep on the floor by me, but generally by morning, he is back in the basement. He tends to wake me up with the claws on the steps coming up, and his hopping down the steps going down.

Fall/winter he tends to sleep by the front door, living room or dining rooml, maybe the kitchen.

Now I sleep on the first floor, but the one or 2 times I slept upstairs (winter/spring), Snuffles slept in the hallway on the second floor.

I do not think he has ever spent a full night with me in the same room. Maybe I snore too loud?

Wash's sleeping arrangements at home are exactly the same pretty much every night. At approximately 10ish he decides it is time for bed. He curls up on the momma-san chair mattress we have laid next to the bed (perfect size for a Newf for those that are looking for the perfect sized dog bed). If noone comes to bed in about 30 minutes after he had decided its bed time he gets up and starts to let everyone know, its time for bed.

Most weekends during the summer we are up at our RV which is parked on a river year round. Because of the confined space he cannot lay near the bed so he will generally start by laying on the pull out couch we open for him, and as the night progresses he will move to lay as close to the bed as he can get (usually on the tile floor right in front of the bathroom).

I bought what they call a mini split A/C unit for the bedroom. It cost about $1500 installed, but we saved more than that in one season of using it. Instead of cooling the entire house at night down to 64 degrees. We leave the house at 75 and cool the bedroom only to 64 degrees. It works like a mini Central air unit. The outside part looks like a mini central air. The inside part is not obtrusive at all.
So since the bedroom is 64 degrees, Lola sleeps in bed with us, Sophie is up and down. Sometimes in bed, sometimes on the floor. Ty is still sleeping in his kennel next to the bed

Mine tend to sleep wherever the coolest spot in the house is, no matter what the season.
They will come to bed with me and stay for a little while til I get settled in then they disperse to their spots. Only one who actually sleeps with/near me is the tzu and she's cold natured....

Sam sleeps in the bedroom, on the floor on my side of the bed. He would not like to be shut out of the bedroom, but I do think he would prefer the option of leaving the bedroom once in a while. I block the doorway with my husband's French horn case. (I could use a gate, but my husband hates 'em-music case is shorter.) Sam could move it or jump over it but he won't. This way I don't worry what he may be doing wandering around the house at night. :D

Montana is a Mama's boy and sleeps where ever I am. He lays down by my bed ( he'd rather be in it) and even when I'm relaxing in the bath, he stations himself outside the door till I come out.

Emma and I went to florida for 3 1/2 weeks the end of June -- my husband told me that Montana was permanantly glued to the shut bathroom door and had to pry him away to go out for potty. I guess he thought I was taking the longest bath ever :)

Annabelle has always slept where I am. She is beside my side of the bed in Winter on her bed and at the end of the bed in Summer on the tiles. Katy sleeps anywhere, but on warm days she chooses to sleep on our screened in verandahs and pick the one that has the most breeze. Tessa, our non-newf sleeps on our couch.
In the past we have always had some who have to be with you and some more independent ones. We never crate our potty trained dogs, so they roam the house

Ethel - You bet your buns I better be with you!
Oreo - I'm going to pretend I don't want to be in the Bedroom, and fater you get all snuggly, I will flump against the door, so you have to get up and let me in, THEN I'll be a Cuddly-Bug!
Ricky - If it's OK I'll sleep in my house by the bed. The Girls always step on me at night - Scheesh!
Luci - If it's OK I'll just lie here at the bottom of the bed in the corner............ok?

Lizzie sleeps upstairs on the tile in our master bathroom with a fan. Here in Texas she sleeps on the tile in the Jack/Jill bath I share with the boys with a fan. I'm going to owe my parents one heck of a check for the a/c the past 8 weeks. LOL

Indy has alway slept in a child size sleeping bag on top of the covers on our bed and finally in year 12 she has graduated to sleeping under the covers with us (basenjis tend to snap at you when they are dead asleep and you touch them- totally instinctual, in the Congo when you sleep and are awakened you tend to snap first and apologize later so the sleeping bag has allowed me to keep all my toes).

Mini splits are nice... My husband works in commercial/ industrial HVAC and can get them at wholesale. He was able to get one for my MIL's addition to the house and it works great! Your showing about 2 hr. away. If your interested, he may be able to get one cheaper up this way vs. down by Philly.

Sadie sleeps down stairs. Hubby does not want her upstairs due to the carpets.. hair... etc. That being said... when hubby is not home.. what he doesn't know won't hurt him. :) She loves to come upstairs for the morning bath. The downstairs is all pergo. She has a nice, soft blanket in her crate but normally chooses to lay on the pergo at an AC vent. If I go downstairs to sleep on the couch (We have a hard bed that gets my back. The couch is usually more comfortable ), she normally sleeps right beside me.
