Digger...help needed.

Help!!! We have a Digger. Boog has totally destroyed the yard. The grass is trying to grow, spring is on its way and we look like we have been attacked by grenades.

Anyone else encountered this problem and know how to correct it?

I haven't a clue, except to tell him no when he starts.

Rather than "no," call him to you and go thru some paces of sit, down, stay, etc - refocus that energy. Believe me, we feel your pain. We went to draft test over the weekend and the grass seed we'd sown had finally sprung ... and like your analogy of "attached by grenades," that's pretty much what our muddy, soaked backyard of a swamp resembles as well. Just them running causing 2" deep holes. We've decided black and hairy beats green and grassy. Hopefully a week of sun will dry things out; dry clay is too tough even for Newfie paws to dig!

From my post on Jen's backyard you can tell I haven't a clue. Since we are rural and have no neighbors worrying about how things look I don't worry either- until we go to sell.

Good grief...same thing here, especially the gazillion muddy paw prints! 4 muddy dogs here and muddy holes that they like to lay in. I only fix some holes but let them have their favorites that they dug under the trees. I just figure it's their yard so they can do the decorating!

Last night, the TV show, Dog Town, dealt with a dog that dug trenches all over his space. They re-directed his attention. Unfortunately, I didn't watch the whole thing so not sure how it ended up.

Merlin was caught digging, but he was digging to create a hole to poop in, uses the same 3 holes for his poop, he has good aim! Makes cleaning up after him easy, he is such a thoughtful guy!

When Tug started digging I put Frank's Red Hot Sauce in the holes.
I put that &%$# on everything!
After a few, he stopped :D

When Scotia digs holes, I put some of her poop in it, and cover it up. She will not dig on those spots anymore.

No hole digging here....I think ours are too busy.Tessa does bury bones in her sand-pit. But it was made for her and her bones, Katy and Annabelle just don't. I think if you do catch them I would use the "leave it", "off" or "enough" and do some obedience.I am at a loss why some dogs dig. Most behavior books will tell you it is due to boredom. A lot recommend to give the dogs an outlook (somewhere to look through the fence) and toys, but knowing what a lot of the NN folk are like, I bet they have all that.
Sometimes the holes are made during hunting...Say for mice or crickets, that would be natural.
