Iwould also have her to the vet....the discharge you have been seeing and thinking is a second heat could also be the signs of a pyo...and the timing for that is about right, as that is about the time it occurs. Many bitches with an open pyo do not get as sick right away as they do with a closed pyo. If it is....although I HATE early spaying....that's your best alternative as pyo tends to return on the next cycle if you treat it.
I agree with fasting for the diarrhea and then going gradually onto boiled meat and rice for a day and a slow return to normal food...I generally do 12 hours with nothing, 12 with plain water, and then the boiled food in small amounts often for 24 hours, being careful to not overload the gut.
I disagree with giving immodium - ever - simply because if there is something toxic in their gut, they need to EMPTY the gut, and giving immodium simply keeps whatever bacteria etc. is causing the problem from being eliminated from their system.

No sage words of advice from me...I'll leave that to the experts...but sending good thoughts for Cimorene and you, Sharon. Hope you and the kids are feeling better, too.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I have an appt today for 1:30pm and I'll post what we find out. Wishing I could get a fresh stool sample beforehand. So far today, she is acting fine, still very playful and HUNGRY.

I hope Cimorene just had a bad stomach virus but I agree - better to be safe than sorry. Anxiously waiting to hear about your visit

Just got back from the vet. We had a WONDERFUL experience. Got the vet tech who is a Berner breeder and also a trainer. She LOVED Cimorene and praised everything from her coat, my grooming, how fit she is, how well trained, etc, etc. I think she wanted to take her off my hands. :)

I couldn't get a stool sample to take but have the little vial for taking one back as soon as she goes.

She was swabbed and is negative for pyo. She is definitely ovulating and vet tech/breeder said, after looking it up in a book, that she's 3 days from perfect breeding time. She agrees that it's classic split-cycle. And having this tech, I got no talks on spaying.

She also shaved that huge mat off her inner thigh that I've been having a time with and gave me lots of tips on grooming, although she praised my efforts (thank you Jeannie for the video!)

Got some probiotics and will be taking a stool sample back hopefully tomorrow.

Oh, and she weighs 115 lbs at 11 months.

Thanks to all who sent advice, concerns and support!! It's so helpful to have this support system to talk things through.

Sharon, I'm so happy that you had a good experience, and that Cimorene doesn't have pyo. I hope that her digestive issues can be cleared up soon. I know you'll both feel much better.

Thanks for the update, and please keep us posted!

Well, Cimorene's stool sample came back clear.

She has had a huge diarrhea accident like this in the house before (many weeks or months apart...this being the 5th in the 9 months we've had her) and I haven't been able to relate them to anything. The Berner breeder mentioned having a dog that did that every 2 months during its growth spurt. Who knows. Her stool isn't perfect much of the time...it's often soft. And she goes 3-5 times a day which seems like a lot. And of course the issue with her trying to eat it. We've tried many foods...Orijen, TOTW, Acana, Nature's Logic and now we're on to Evo Turkey/Chicken.

Riley had very soft, smelly stools, it didn't matter what we fed him, and I was reluctant to do raw when he was a wee puppy. The vet suggested giving him one meal a day of chicken necks and that helped quite a bit. Now, he gets Acana grasslands in the morning and raw at night and his stools are small, firm and much less stinky. Just a thought.
