Question for those of you around the Bancroft area...I am debating which way to come down for the weekend.

Would you recommend taking Hwy 69 south from Subury and then take 169/118 across to Bancroft.

OR

Would you recommend taking Hwy 11 south from North Bay and then taking 60/35/118 across?

Thanks!

apparently google maps believes the 401 is my best option. not sure i agree. we will be leaving at like 3:30 on a friday - toronto rush hour....

9.Take the exit onto ON-401 E
84.7 km
10.Take exit 436 to merge onto ON-115 N/ON-35 N toward Lindsay/Peterborough Continue to follow ON-115 N
58.7 km
11.Continue onto Trans-Canada Hwy/ON-7 E
7.0 km
12.Turn left at ON-28 N (signs for Lakefield/Bancroft)
15.0 km
13.Turn right to stay on ON-28 N (signs for Bancroft)
86.4 km

Hey Mandi,

The only real modification you can make is taking the 407 across the top of Toronto for a bit, but you will have to get onto the 401 at the 404, so you really won't be beating too much 401 traffic - other than that, the route you have listed is the way to go. Yes, the 401 will be a nightmare at that time.

I should add that another option is to head up North 400 to 11 and then 118 across to bancroft - problem is, traffic going North up the 400 will also be awful - that route is very busy at rush-hour. Hard to say - we will be taking the 401.

I am not an expert in this area (although I should know it since I've lived in Gravenhurst my whole life), but I think I would take 69/118 - that stretch of hwy is faster than going through all the small towns along hwy 11 South - We take Hwy 11 North all the way up to New Liskeard sometimes and it can be slow with all the towns and slow speed limits - 69 is a faster hwy I believe.

I was looking at the map and 69 looks 1) easier and 2) maybe a little bit faster, but I honestly detest driving that highway, especially in the winter.

However, if it will make things easier on the boy, then we will take the shortest route.

Im coming saturday morning but I will be taking the 404 south (im in Aurora but need to come south to pick up a friend) to the 407 and taking it all the way across until it ends and then get on the 115. Taking the 407 will save a TON of time.. the worst part of the 401 is from yorkdale mall over to pretty much Oshawa. The 407 will cut all of that out if you take it as far East as it goes to Brock Rd. Pricey though if you don't have a transponder! I love the 407 its such a life saver

lol, am I the only one coming from the West? Next year I hope that my friends Rob and Susanne will come with me...they just brought home a new puppy, so they are trying to adjust to that life right now :) Although, last night at the park Wyatt got into my car and we literally had to lift him out...he would not budge. Sulley was over the moon excited, and Wyatt was movin out...enough of that puppy business!

When I go to Toronto airport I take the route you are going Tux. It is the fastest. In peak hours I scoot across the 407 instead of the 401. Once you are past whitby it is smooth sailing, even in heavier traffic. It's getting across the top of the city that is a pain in the butt. Takes me about 3 hrs in normal traffic to get to Pearson airport......I've done it in 2 in the wee hours of the morning in a hurry, I've also done it in 5 hours in bad traffic!

There is another route I sometimes use -- it's more leisurely, involves going through uxbridge and around the south end of lake simcoe, then across through coboconk. It takes a bit longer but is good if you want to avoid highways.

google maps assumes about 4.5 hours in normal traffic. that seems a bit much - but since we will be right in the middle of the toronto rush hour traffic im guessing that should be about correct. i work until 3:30 or we would leave sooner, and im in the office that day so i cant even request a half day :(

we will most definately be missing dinner that night

if you are taking the 404 you can get off on bloomington and take itto goodwood and it becomes 7A which runs right through to 35. 407 does not meet the 115

I am taking the 404 south to pick up a friend otherwise I would take Bloomington across like you suggest! You are right the 407 doesn't meet up with the 115, the 407 ends and we continue on hwy 7 (i think it is hwy 7 might be some other roads as well) to the 115. My friend has a cottage in Bobcaygeon and we always take the 407 until it ends, Hwy 7 and some country roads, then get on the 115! (when we are coming from the South, not from Aurora - they live near Yonge and Hwy 7 so its faster than gonig up to Bloomington)He and his family have tried numerous routes to get to their cottage and that is the quickest way. (can't recall the exact route and road names, we know it just by going not sure of all the street names!) If anyone is wanting to take the 407 across until it ends to avoid the 401 I can get the exact directions to get to 115 if they'd like. I'd have to check mapquest. It still definetely beats taking the 401 timewise, especially in rush hour traffic. (no contest)

if you take 407 it ends at brock road in pickering. you can head north on brock but can keep going straight when 407 ends and you keep going you are on #7. then i would take it to #12/7 and go from there. i know summer is over but the 401 on a friday is a killer from scarborough to whitby. mostly stop and go. i would definatly try to avoid it at all costs.

just looked at mapquest if you take the 407 and keep going straight when it ends you are on #7 take it to hwy. 12 head north to 7A which will take you through port perry but does go to 35 or keep going to the 115
