A good (and popular) new book is one that a lady on our Golden forum wrote is about her relationship with her SAR dog (a Golden named Puzzle), and what they encountered while training for the various SAR certifications.
The book is called Scent of the Missing: Love and Partnership with a Search and Rescue Dog, by Susannah Charleson
It's really a very good book....and no the dog doesn't die. No need for tissues! Puz is alive and well and just turned 6. And Susannah is in the process of writing her second book.
It's got 4.5 stars out of 5 on Amazon!

And another author that I "know" somewhat, is David Rosenfelt.
A NN member (JennLM) contacted me one night very late about a possible Golden in a shelter in CA, asking if I knew of anyone who could help.
I really didn't, but I had read one of David's books, which mentioned his Golden rescue on the cover, and that he was in CA...so I sent off an email to him. The shelter wasn't sure what breed the dog was, since he didn't have much fur (horrible mange all over), and had tumors the size of baseballs. He was a MESS. But he had some gold on his tail, and was about the right size, so they thought he was a Golden.
I didn't know if David would even respond to me, but he immediately (within an hour) answered that email and we discovered that the dog was in a shelter 10 minutes from his home.
He got the dog the next day, took him to the Vet, paid for him to be treated, and gave him a home until the day he died. The dog was known to us all as "Junior" (named by David's wife). He wasn't a Golden after all, but he was a very lucky boy to have David and his wife take him in. He went from a "street dog" who was about to be put down, to a well loved, well cared for, beautiful boy, who lived a very happy life for another year and a half, until cancer took his life.
David is truly an angel to many unloved, unwanted dogs. He rescues senior Goldens (and some other breeds if they need special care). He used to have a full fledged Golden rescue, but now just adopts and rescues mostly seniors or dogs who need special medical attention. They live out their lives in his home.
David doesn't write about rescue or "dogs" per se. He writes a series of "light reading" mystery/thriller novels (Andy Carpenter series) which always have a dog involved in the storyline (Tara, specifically). Andy, the main character, is a lawyer who is involved in rescue. The books are entertaining and fun. David has a great sense of humor, and Tara is quite a character!
Check out the link and the video! Shows his life at home with his furkids!
You can also read about his books on this link.
David holds a special place in our hearts, because of his work with "unwanted" dogs (and especially how he immediately responded to a call for help for Junior from someone he didn't know across the country), but he's also an entertaining writer, and his books are fun to read!
