Yesterday he went out with all the dogs at playtime. Got in the pond and did a good job of being playground monitor. At 1 he ate some lunch. At 2 he had liquid diarrhea. My evening he was vomiting. He didn't care about anything. Just laid in his poop and vomit while refusing to eat or drink. So today instead of going out to be playground monitor he crossed the rainbow bridge.

RIP my old man

Jeannie, I haven't been on the bulletin board for a long time and decided I would check it out today. Seeing that Adam has crossed to the Bridge is heart-breaking. Hearing stories about him was one of the highlights of being on Newf.net. I am so sorry that you have lost your big boy and pray that you heal gently from your grief. We will see them all again someday; I truly believe.

I'm so sorry, Jeannie. No matter how long they are with us, it is never long enough. Rest well, sweet Adam. You lived long and you were well loved, no dog could ask for more...

Oh, no. I'm so sorry. I loved his stories and he was such a huge part of NN. I'm so sad for you but I agree with Ronnie and the others that you gave him the best gift you could have. You'll be in my thoughts.

Thanks everyone. He went downhill very fast - OK in the morning then by evening he was ready. I know I did the right thing. My vet asked me if I wanted to drop him off or stay. Of course I stayed and held him as he passed. He was so dehydrated that the vet had a hard time getting the vein. He will be missed. I have 12 years of wonderful memories!

Chase seems to be doing OK. She is the only newf I have left. Cannot believe that a few short years ago I had 5 newfs and 1 saint.

I'm so sorry Jeannie. He lived a wonderful life with you. Think of the party they're all having at the bridge now welcoming him! Hugs to you.

Oh my, Jeannie, I'm so sorry. Almost all the original NN dogs are now gone. I can't believe it and I don't want to. So few left, it just breaks my heart.

It seems like the end of a glorious era is upon us, and it makes me very, very sad. But you're right that you, and all of us who have lost our hearts to these dogs, have so many years of great memories.

And Adam is happily running to meet his sisters, free of his poor, tired body. I'll bet there's one hell of a NN Newf reunion today. Wish I could see it.

You did everything you could for him and more importantly, you knew when the time was right to let go. I know Adam is looking down and smiling; thanking you for loving him so.

I am so sorry Jeannie. I know how hard it is to let them go even when you know it's time. It sounds so similar to the way Gabriel went out. We think he had a stroke, and just crashed in 24 hours basically.
Chase may grieve the way Hannah did when she was the only one left. Just give her support and let her have her space and time, just as you would a person.
Again, so sorry for you and Gary. You gave Adam a wonderful life and I know he loved his job as playground superintendent.
