WHY???? These are two perfectly good breeds for their purpose. Except if you have a dog hair allergy and you want a newf, maybe?
I actually hate designer dog breeding. i have no issues if done for a specific reason as they did for the labx poodle for hair allergy blind people. But the "just because" make me mad!!!

Another example is the coltriever.............Border collie cross Golden. Done for the purpose of breeding a better search and rescue dog. I am not even sure if it has been successful, but i followed that breeding program for a long time. They have some very good search and rescue coltrievers

Interesting thread considering the conversation I just had with a friend of a friend. She was looking on line and seeing goldendoodles and other assorted "doodles" selling for lots of money. She said some "show doodle" breeders were selling pet pups for $1500 and doodles "with breeding rights" for $2500????? And they came with "papers"???? She had called and spoke to them, and was thinking about buying a pair to make some money. I explained to her that I could print her off "papers" on my computer for far less than the additional $1000 they wanted for "breeding rights". I explained about AKC recognized breeds, junk registries etc and I really dont think she "gets" it. This is an intelligent woman, yet didnt know that cockapoos, maltipoos etc are simply very high priced crosses. She said that the "doodle" breeders said they used only top quality Sires and Dams from top lines of Goldens and Poodles. I tried to explain that this was just about impossible, since top breeders of Goldens and Poodles DO NOT normally sell full reg puppies to the type of people who would breed "doodles". I also explained that a FIRST generation of "doodle" may exhibit hybrid vigor due to genetic diversity, but that when they became F2 (if I remember my genetics right, the second generation is called F2), their offspring loose any advantage they had.It was a VERY disturbing conversation to say the least, since she didnt know that shelters are filled with "hypoallergenic" mixes who cause allergies in their owners, or that "doodle" anythings are indeed a mixed breed dog!!! We didnt even get into the whole "dog breeders dont make fistfuls of money" conversation. I just figured, whats the use!!AAGGHHH

Ok heres a little thing that happened to a friend who raises Chesapeke Bay Retr. She had a litter of puppies and when she would take them along to dog shows, pet stores, etc to socialize them SO many people were wanting to look at the Labradoodles! I told her she should advertise them as Labradoodles and she could make an extra thousand bucks! (just kidding of course!)

...and posting these links gives them more advertisement. Nobody who posts on this list can guarantee that everyone feels the same way. I agree its outrageous and irresponsible, and a good topic to try and educate about, but posting the link takes one more step away from individuals who may decide its the 'right' thing for them.

JMO and personal experience...

If they wanna buy a $300 -$1500 mutt they will ... with the help of a link of not... Puppy millers have all the exposure they need.... people don't come to Newf Net 'looking' for a puppy milled mutt..

And, JMO, but I think the 'drift' of the discussion is not lost on any reader.

designer dogs? NO! they are mutts no matter how you spell their names.
there are a few around here and boy people get mad when you call them a mutt. LOL
I usually try and sound totally amazed when I ask them why they paid $1000 or more for a mutt.

Just what we need more of the so called designer dogs. Kijiji is the absolute worse website and one of the biggest websites for puppymillers. I actually saw Newfoundlandspups on this site about 1 1/2 years ago that they were asking $500 for. I called out of curiosity and she was a woman in Quebec who was willing to deliver the pup to me (sight unseen of course) and meet me in some parking lot.

I think i may know that. I've seen some adds in the paper and out of curiosity I called one and went to visit. The guy said his sister in law had a newf that had puppies and she needed to move, so he was selling them for her (ya right, his ad in the paper was for 5 different breeds). The dog he brought out and claimed it was a newfy weighed only 10 pounds at about 10 weeks old and had bown specs on it and the ears of a lab. I laughed at him and wished I could go back to his house at night and steal all the dogs and burn his house down after..

Hey Lola I just read your post. I know you have some serious mills in Quebec but Toronto isn't much better. I also wish I could just seize dogs from people especially the people who think everyone else is an idiot. I like the idea of burning down the house as well. I'm only one person but together maybe we can make a difference and stop these millers, BYB's and the idiots creating the mixed breeds because it's the trend. It just makes me so mad. Supply and demand, gotta hate it.
