Where do you take your dogs?

I was wondering where all of you take your fur babies! When we decided to get Scout, we wanted a dog that we could take with us wherever we went. We try to take him wherever we can. He has been to my school a few times at the end of the day and the children just love him. He has been to a few parades, camping, and last weekend he went with us to the skating rink for a birthday party that my daughter went to! He loved to watch all of the children zoom by, and they would skate over and love on him :icon_knuddel:. When I had him outside for a walk a lady from the beauty salon next door saw him, and called us in to see everyone in there! He was a perfect gentleman! Today he going with us to the holiday parade. I was just wondering if there was ever a place you took your dog that you really shouldn't have. WE think he is the BEST, but others who are not dog people may not. Any thoughts?!
p.s. I know I posted in the wrong place!

We take Rocky every where that we can but one time a store owner invited us in to their wine store. I kept Rocky up front by the cash register because I was afraid he would knock into something. He was very good but at the last minute he shook his head a flung a floogie onto the desk. The lady did look a little grossed out.

Snuffles goes just about anywhere I can take him. Most people in my life I visit allow him. Of course there are the pet stores, and we do have a chain of farm supply stores in the area that allow dogs. In fact we met up with Karen and the kin folk (Apache, Beau, and Cole) last Monday at the store closest to Karen's home. We do have a restaurant we have been to several times here that that allows dogs on the deck that over looks the lake when they are serving out there. Snuffles has also been to a local *dive* bar when *Uncle* Ron had his 65th....with the owners permission of course. Also, I do maintain the sound system at the Jewish Synagogue here. He generally goes with me there. Not thinking, I did give him his 7:30 PM treat there that just so happen to be a pig ear that night.

I think most of this has been documented in pictures posted here over the few years.

We are trying to socialize Scarlet, so we take her as many places as we can. Currently, we are looking for outdoor activities where people and possibly other dogs gather like farmer's markets or strip malls. Of course Petsmart and Petco and other similar places. Oh, and the dog show...now that is a lot of stimulation!

well, I think it is great to take your newf anywhere you can...In europe you could take him absolutely everywhere, restuarants, and department stores....I would frown a little on the pigs ear in Synagogue...however...but can be forgiven. (smile)

Just found out today that dogs are allowed in Home Depot (home improvement warehouse)...so I called ahead to our store to make sure and he said, "Of course they're allowed, just as long as they're leashed!" So we walked in the door to Home Depot and the greeter said, "Is that a service dog?" I said..."no..." and he said, "Then you can't bring it in here!!!" After a discussion with the guy I spoke to on the phone who said yes...they are allowed, even big dogs, as long as they're not jumping up on anyone, the greeter said, "Oh, I thought it was only Yorkies and them little purse dogs." We walked around and everyone was looking at us strangely...but River didn't care, she just kept trying to eat the popcorn off the floor. I would bring her EVERYWHERE if I could!

Interesting discussion. I've always heard about people socializing Berners at Home Depot also, although I must report I've not seen many dogs there. But again, their corp policy is that dogs are indeed allowed. So for what it's worth...

I've had tons of people tell me to bring my Newf and dogs to outdoor art shows. I respect art too much to allow a bull in a china closet anywhere near works of art that I might be responsible for....'whatever', these folks assure me I would be 'center of attention.' Say what??? At an art show, when artists are seriously trying to make their way....they want someone with a dog to walk by and steal 'attention'?? I think dog people who tell me this are wanton is some unimaginable way.

Take dogs where dogs belong (and Home Depot, inspite of the odd looks, may well be a place to meet & greet.) Pet stores mentioned, but also off leash (or on leash) parks in all your cities and villages, political grass roots organizing, just get those dogs out and about as often as possible. But please keep perspective!!

Oh yeah???? There are not many Home Depots in central IL. There is a Home Depot near where the farm supply store that we met Karen, Apache, Beau and Cole at. Karen has never mentioned it, so she may not know. I just sent her a email to check it out :) Now I wonder since the farm supply chain is HQ in a small central IL town that does have a Home Depot, if that is why they allow dogs.

Never thought of it, but I would I would be worried of Snuffles shaking his head and...... well you know the rest of the story.

We take them everywhere, to the beach, the farm, swimming at the dog beach & bay beach, nursing homes, stores that let dogs in, relatives houses, customers houses, to work, on trips/vacations, rides in the car/truck, walks around town.............EVERYWHERE!

We take Cooper everywhere we can. We made the mistake of taking him to drop DD at preschool one day, though, and while lots of kids loved him (and he loved THEM), one mom let her boys go up and pet him, then one of those boys had a reaction (he has a known allergy, but his mom "wants him exposed to dogs") so we got in some serious trouble from the school's director for being on school property (though not in the direct path of the door). In our town dogs are not allowed on school property, period.

We love to take him to terrace restaurants, people are always so suprised to see this big dog stand up at the end of the meal. LOL. They usually had no idea he was even there.

I take mine to as many places as I can. Lots of parks, home depot, pet stores, restaurants with outdoor verandas, art shows and many, many training classes.

Everywhere, where they will let us in. And a lot of places are getting used to us and accepting our dogs. Annabelle and Tessa also go to Riding for the disabled and to the Autism Centre. And we have also been to a nursing home several times. Katy is meeting and greeting everyone wherever we can. A couple of small villages now have water bowls out for dogs, because we wander the streets on the weekends with our dogs. And we have coffee/lunch at their outdoor tables. It is amazing how things have change since we have taken Annabelle and Tessa out so much in these villages. people are really friendly and want to chat about the dogs. Makes for very slow walks :)
