Tricks

I've been teaching Edward some little tricks, twirl and spin, close the door, bow etc. Does anyone have any really good tricks their Newfies can do? Teaching him something new on a wet afternoon wears him out!

We trained our newf-mix to say, "please" by basically barking without making any noise. It comes out more like a forced puff of breath.

the only "fun" trick we do is "touch it"-Maggie touches the palm of our hand with her nose.

I couldn't think of anything else to teach her.

I taught Benson the "bang" trick. When I pointed my finger at him and said bang....he would lay down and roll over. It's a very easy trick to teach and the kids we visited just loved it. I taught Henry to wave by first teaching him touch, then paw (giving me his paw on command) and then progressed to wave. It's simply paw at a distance. Again, great parlor tricks for any kind of therapy work you may want to do.

We also do the "Bang" trick. Quite the crowd pleaser. Granted, Lola does it SLOWLY :) You point your finger at one of the doxies and say Bang and it drops and plays dead. You point your finger at Lola and say Bang. She slowly sits down then lays down and slowly rolls on her side. Apparently she has watched too many movies and is playing dead in slow motion

:lol: Tug plays dead in slow motion, too. Sometimes it takes more than one 'bullet' cuz he's a big dog, doncha know :D
And on the way down it's grumble, groan and ooph... Till he's flat out. Then, if he twitches, I say "Dead dogs don't move" and he's still... When I'm ready I raise my hands in the air, in my best Dr. Frankenstein, cry: "He's ALIVE!!!" And Tug jumps up expecting kisses and treats.
He'll turn on command; one way only.
Lie down and have treats put on his paws with the "Trust" command. He'll look at them, drool, look at me, then only eat them when I've said "Paid for".
We're working on him doing this with the treat on his nose...
Tug rings a bell to go outside, does shake a paw and high five, can walk under my legs doing figure 8's when I'm wearing pants I don't mind all hairy ;)
Tug can 'Speak' loudly or softly, depending on my hand motion; a fist opened wide is a bark, a little bit of fingers open is a whisper.
Oh, he's also got me wrapped around his little paw... A feat in itself :lol:

I point at the chair & Tiki gets on it;
I throw cookies on the floor & tell them no, then point to a cookie & say get it, & do this for each cookie.

Wash can do lay down, he does it so well that at times its nearly impossible to get him back up.

He can also speak on command.
