To Much Skin?

I have just heard on the radio there are more than normal sharks in our bays (Great Whites) - I think Archie heard the theme tune from 'Jaws' and decided not to get in - good job too!

We put down 87 000 dogs in Cape Town alone a year, so no, in this country I think there needs to be 'a home for every dog, and a dog for every home'.

Your boy is gorgeous! Thank you for rescuing him! Right now, I wouldn't worry too much about his skin hanging. You might notice a change when he gets his weight back. My Roger has been through a couple of issues which caused him to drop quite a bit of weight. He felt the same way, especially in the neck area, until he put the weight back on.

Ty is so handsome! I would also wait to get his weight up and see if that affects his head shape. If not, when you have him fixed see if they can do the tuck at the same time to avoid putting him under twice. his head should be done growing by now if he is 4, so if the surgery would improve his quality of life i would consider it.

Do you know who the Canadian breeder was? If so, can you PM me? It's not allowed to write it here, but being from Canada I have a hunch!
Thank goodness he ended up with you.

I can give you registration details, i just have to call the original owner, as I am not allowed to own them till he is neutered.

It's 6am here, and I have to get kids to school and it's my day to visit my parlors and fetch a few special clients dogs, 1 client today has 6 Bouvier De Flanders! They come bi weekly, took me 4 months to tell them apart - it's not like Newfies where their faces vary dog to dog...

What I am saying is I will do it tonight :D

Thanks for all the help, it's really great

Roger is the one on the right. He's a healthy 150 lbs in the picture! His brother Merlin is smaller in size but weighs the same because Merlin is very active and is solid muscle!

Okay so that makes Archie 44Lbs underweight!

Made the 'newfi weight putting on food', good greif he is the messiest eater you can imagine, everything ends up up his nose! I need a special bowl. Any advice?

He has just wiped his face on my duvet and burped in my face... so I guess it was good!

Can I ask what your newfs sleep on - except the couch! He likes the couch but tends to get off as I think its too warm, I bought him an emormous cushion, but he doesn't like it. I thought of getting dense foam and having it covered in leather, then its comfy but not hot?

I wish I lived nearer you guys - you are so helpful!

The favorite place to sleep for my 4 newfs is the cold cold tile! They'll lay on the leather sofa for a short time, then they're back on the tile. In front of a fan. With the Air conditioning on.

Beau is also a rescue and he hated water as well at first, completely petrified of it. The trick we found was to don our wellies and keeping him on a loose leash walk through shallow streams and brooks until he learnt by watching us and our other dogs that water was fun. There's no stopping him these days now.

I wouldn't worry about the droopy eyes yet unless there is an irritation or infection problem going on, his skin will probably pull back more as he puts on weight.

Beau loves cold tiled floors and will only sleep on something for short periods of time though do you have access to the chilled blankets (chillows I think they are called) in south africa as some dogs love these

No advice on the eyes, but thank you so much for rescuing one more. It's an unending job but we all try. He's gorgeous and I know he's so grateful to have a good home again where someone loves him. Newfs need a lot of love.

Thule can basically sleep anywhere. Sometimes tile, sometimes hardwood, sometimes on a mat, sometimes on the couch, sometimes on her bed... she likes to have choices!

Sulley also likes choices, but I bought him a special cool core mat that is filled with water and is cooler than the floor, so he likes that. Other wise he is all over the tile.

Poppy sleeps on our wood floor. It is the only place she likes to sleep. She likes a fan if she is hot, but not directly on her for very long. Usually from afar. We have a small fan we put on the floor for her.

After he eats, try wiping his face with a tea towel...think like a napkin. Works well.

We also changed Poppy's food, because her gas could clear a room. I know that my son used to get bad gas because he was allergic to certain foods. So we switched her to Whitefish & Sweet Potato food and she doesn't clear the room with her gas anymore. We are all so much happier. She is also Sooo much more active since I switched her food. Which was a surprise, but she must feel better, right?

What you did for your Newfy guy is wonderful. What is the matter with people?! Sometimes I want to chain up the guys who chain dogs, kwim? Wonder how they would like it??
