To Anyone in the Path of Ike.....

I echo those sentiments and pray everyone stays safe and out of harms way.

This is what puzzles me.. I just saw CNN interviewing a family who have decided to "stick it out".. The girls were actually giggling. What is wrong with people ?? :bah:

Thinking about all those folks in harm's way too. The weather service said anyone who stays in Galveston, in particular, is courting "certain death." Some people just don't respect nature. I'm praying for the entire coast tonight. Stay safe.

I hope..with all the information that has been focused upon this event, and the history of the last few years..the populations will, learn how to judge a disaster..and what should be done about it. ina n HB n Kesa

When they drink too much, do they start dancing around in circles until they collide with something?

My students and I have been praying all day for Houston and Galveston. Very, very scary especially if one has read anything about the 1900 Galveston hurricane. My old neighborhood is one of the ones under mandatory evacuation. The son of one of my fellow teachers is a grad student at the University of Houston (further inland) and is in the area that has been told to stay put. His mother and grandmother are very worried.

I have a cousin in Houston and her 2 married children with their children. They live on the WSW side of downtown. They have chosen not to leave. They have generators, batteries, bottled water as well as the tub and buckets filled. I still can contact them via cell phone but tomorrow I most likely won't be able to talk to them. Pray for them.

This is a good website on sustained wind data for Houston and evacuation zones.

We're sitting on the fringe and depends on path coming up into Texas but we're expecting some of the rain and winds. It's hot today and clouds from Ike are already appearing. Ike is huge. Coast conditions are already deteriorating from news reports. My friends were riding it out too on northwest side of Houston. God bless everyone in Ike's path.

I hope all in the affected areas know the rest of us are thinking of them - in my case it seems to be a constant thing. Remembering Katrina/Rita makes me want to camp on the Weather Channel and Fox News, etc. Prayers for all.

I know what you mean! Last night we were under a tornado warning. Sirens going off every few minutes. Still, I couldn't tear myself away from the Ike coverage long enough to go to the basement. I was much more worried about those folks than us.

Hope everyone is safe and well this morning.

Incidently, our storm turned to the east just about a mile south of me and blew over into the next state. I figured it would. It never came down out of the clouds either; just strong rotation. That's usually how it happens here. You get used to it.

I'm fine. The line for tropical force winds is just east of me. We're under wind advisory until later today. Put up anything that wind could carrry around. Been checking on friends and so far seem to be ok or hanging in there. Power out in most of Houston area. Unbelievable, the size of Ike.

Here's what I DON'T understand. After being TOLD to leave or face certain death, Why did people stay and are now crying to be rescued. :slap: I know that there are some elderly people that might not of been able to leave, but come on, now men and women have to risk their own lives to try and save these people. And our tax dollars help pay to save their sorry as@$^*! And, By the way, I have cousins that live in southern Texas and Louisiana. They always get out when told.

I'm listening the news reports and from what I'm hearing people who had been through hurricane's before didn't expect it to be that bad since hurricane only category 2, and not thinking the size of this one would do this much damage. What's blowing my mind people are being told to stay off the streets and they're out looking at the damage or trying to travel on streets like idiots.

I heard from my cousin. Everyone is fine and no major damage. Just some shingles blowen off one of the roofs.
