To Anyone in the Path of Ike.....

What the Heck!!!! It looks like a lot of us are in the path of Ike. We're getting 75 MPH winds and the trees in Kentucky are not built to stand wind speeds that high. My son has our broken chainsaw. That's another story, and my other son just called looking for it, and we just lost a big part of one of the birch trees and another is cracking every time we get a big blast. We're walking around waiting for two more to go and hoping they don't fall on the house. Not to mention grids of electricity are going right and left. The durn thing is still swirling. They eye is just north of Indianapolis. Good Grief.

Greetings from Galveston County Texas, we live in the unincorporated strip between Dickinson and League City about twenty miles inland from Galveston Island. Lester and Ruby weathered Ike well and now have electricity again, however they will not be enjoying the pool for some time. We are cleaning up and planning to call the insurance company so we can get repairs when possible. Other people found themselves less fortunate and last night my brother and his friend came by for a hot shower and free meal. Lines for ice and bottled water are so long people wait for hours, no perishable food is for sale in the area but anything that does not require cooling is starting to become available again.

Well....Ike has sure laid a huge smack on the midwest! Cincinnati area has 550k people without power right now and lots of wind damage. I lost power at 3 yesterday and now have a huge limb across my front yard and a tree topped out in the back yard, with shingles missing on the peak of my house. Duke energy is saying some places won't have power for 3-4 days but many will get it back today, depending on where you live. Of course one of the pockets that have power just happens to be my WORK, so I'm here. haha Newfs are safe in the basement, but if it gets too humid, I'll be moving Lu somewhere with A/C.

Long lines of people at the gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants that are open. Odd places where things are working and things aren't. People are going crazy buying batteries, generators, and lots of ice and coolers.

My heart and prayers go out to those in Texas and other places who are dealing with flooding on top of power outages.
