Hi @ I use to belong but my computer crashed and I lost the link. I got settled into Newf-l and ya know...same S&%T, different day. So I was pointed back here by a kind person..thank you!

I have Story, my very old newfie girl...13-14 years old. Landseer. And I have recently taken in a very old newfie mix from our local pound named Old Max. He is awaiting vetting tomorrow. Details to follow.

the scandal on newf-l was over me trying to adopt an older newf from a breeder who I like but obviously a few over yonder do not like. I quickly realized this big fella was more than I could handle and chose to take him back to the breeder, who was fine with this. Meddlesome Mary's over yonder decided I shouldnt give him back to the breeder (even tho I had a signed contract AND my word) and should instead hustle him away...

shaking my head..I really cant believe all that transpired yesterday...it was awful.

but I unsubscribed over there because I am tired of the flame wars, and am back over here. My old girl Story is doing very fine, even with her dementia. My old boy Old Max is basking in the sun, ever so grateful to have a foster home (and maybe a permenant one if Story and he get along) after losing his Missus (she died).

Now I will try to load photos...

Welcome. Sorry about your bad experiences...things tend to be pretty mild around here. I am very glad to hear that you are able and willing to foster the Sr's...they require that extra special touch :)

and, of course, we would adore pictures ;)

Welcome back!! Sorry about the flamers over there, but you won't get that here!! Those seniors are so glad people like you exist!!!! Very glad and happy to have you!!

I lasted about a week on Newf-L and deleted it with no looking back.
That was over a year ago.

I am very appreciative of the people on Newf-L who donated money to help defray the cost to bail out Old Max, get him vetted and groomed. It is going to help alot...so not everyone, in fact, most of the people on Newf-l are good people. There are a few that just make that list insane. It was all fine and dandy until a few of them got mad at me because I was taking Dawson back to his owner/breeder. I had planned on adopting Dawson, who is a 10 year old retired stud dog from Watchbear kennels. The week I was suppose to pick him up, Old Max was dumped at the local pound. He is an 11+ year old newf mix. His owner died and he ended up in the pound. I couldnt let him be euthenized! So I got both of them back to back. Dawson was marking all over the house, so I was running around with scrub rags, enzymes and carpet shampoo, while doctoring Old Max, and dealing with my own landseer girl, Story, who is 13 and had dementia. I literally have to hand feed her (by hand or by spoon) because she doesnt know how to eat anymore. I couldnt keep up with everything. I finally gave in and realized I had to take Dawson back. Like I said, everyone was ok with me doing that until some people started bad mouthing Watchbear. I dont care what anyone feels about a kennel..you just dont go public about it! It was even expected of me to put him in NCA rescue instead of giving him back to WB, even tho I had a contract signed AND MY WORD that he would go back to WB if things didnt work out. One person even wanted me to say I kept him and secret him away to a new owner.

heavy sad sigh...I left. That level of unethical stuff was the limit.

Dawson was so happy to be home with his buddies. I can now focus on taking care of Max and my old girl wont get lost in the shuffle. I didnt plan on rescuing an old dog while adopting another old dog ..but I wasnt letting Old Max die. Plain and simple. Dawson will find a wonderful family home one day and until then, will be loved and cared for by Jeanne from WB.

Old Max goes to the vet tomorrow...I will let everyone know how he is..

All I'm sayin here is that SOME people can be EXTREME...wayyyy extreme and Newf-L has its nutcases just as NN has its.

So, your heart was in the right place getting him. So, you bit off a bit more than you could chew (haven't well all at some point?) So, you decided to do the right thing and since your heart told you it was right, why do you care what anyone else thinks?
At the end of the day YOU have to make sure YOU'RE happy with the choices YOU'VE made. Everyone else is just froth when it comes to how much sleep you get at night as a result of those choices.
Newf-L isn't for everyone.

I agree that both have merit. I owe them alot, for their support during Old Max's rescue. Everyone's heart is on the same side, no matter if there are flames or flowers there!
