Sunday Morning

Got out of bed, poured a cup of coffee, checking emails before hitting the back patio to spend the AM with the fiancee and the pups, get slapped back to reality when the fiancee is literally shouting "honey!! Landseer!! help!!".

I see a Landseer (identical in appearance to my Matilda who we lost two years ago to cancer) running loose headed for the main road. I run for the back door, grabbed a pair of shorts off the top of the laundry basket as I run past it (still in my boxers), and chase after her before she gets hurt.

We caught her and got her inside our fence with no injuries. Now she was very wet jowled (probably nervous) and slimes me from the waist down. This is the point where I realize I'm wearing my fiancee's shorts.

So as I stand her with my feet bleeding from running down a dog while barefoot, sweating a bit, looking as if I just wet myself due to dog drool, and standing in women's clothes, the local police department just happens to drive by...and of course stop to chat and make sure everything's ok.

Short time later the owner drove past searching for the pup. She told me "I was torn, I turned the corner and thanked God someone had found her and she appeared unhurt. I wanted to sprint to her and hug her then realized hey, he's brushing her coat out. If I can sit her for another half an hour or so he'll be finished."

Long story short, she was returned home, we had a very hectic morning and for a very brief moment today I relived some of my Matilda's short life vicariously through this little lady. (My male pups did as well, they were crying running to her and then incredibly confused when the smell wasn't quite right.) It was a great early birthday present.

good job! is that what we have to do to get a free grooming, let our dogs out right at your house? I love that!

Hahaha the owner's comment! Although had it been MY landseer there's no way a half hour of brushing out would finish the job. ;)
