Hello to everyone! We are the Reillys from Douglassville PA and we are excited to join the forum to make connections with other Newf owners, who share the same joy from having such unique members in their own families. Our boy Sully came to us as an adoptee from Casa Loma Newfoundlands, in 4/12 when he was only 1, a family who had him in Chicago relinquished back to the breeder, due to a divorce (their loss was definitely our gain!). As soon as we met Sully, we just fell in love! We have always had labs, so we are used to 'crazy dogs', but since we have adopted Sully, we have come to understand that a Newfie is not a dog, but is instead like a wild animal (with a heart of gold of course) that you have invited into your home! Sully quickly became part of the family and it has been an adventure since (including drywall destruction from rolling over while sleeping on his back- who knew that could happen!). I'm sure everyone can share in the joys and angst of having a Newfie in their family.. but as everyone can attest to, the 'good' most definitely outweighs the bad. It has been one and a half years since we adopted Sully and people now think we are crazy and we thought we were too, until we met Stacy, from Birdsboro PA, who was with her dog Chumley at a local pool for a doggie dip. After one conversation, we realized that we are not alone in this obsessive insanity. Stacy connected me with Jessica, who happens to have a relative of Sully's and told me about the upcoming gathering in Ocean City, MD, which we are excited for! Looking forward to meeting everyone and being a part of the forum!
