We went to the doctor man today. Mostly a checkup, although a main concern of mine is her constant itchiness. And while getting off of Pro-Plan and starting onto TOTW seemed to help (mostly with her ears), it didn't nip any scratching or flaky skin in the bud like I'd hoped.
She is starting on an antihistamine today. 2 of them twice daily. I've given her children's benadryl before and it mildly alleviates, so I'm hoping this will really take care of her discomfort. If not, he'll refer us to a dermatologist to get to the bottom of what exactly her allergies are.
I was concerned that she may have had staph because her nips in her mid-section are a little swollen & they have scabs around them. He said no. It's just from constantly kicking at her stomach to itch herself. Thank GOD. My brother's white Lab just had a staph infection with sores all over her feet.
He listened to her heart- sounded great.
She also has what ya'll have referred to in past threads as "newfie trembles". It's in her right leg & she doesn't do it incessantly although she randomly did it in front of Dr. A. And like all of you have commented on this, he said it was nothing for me to worry about.
I made an appointment for her to be spayed. Two weeks from today. My breeder recommended 9 months to a year, so we're doing 13 months. I'll remind ya'll on the day she's going in so you can keep her in your prayers. She's completely out of the crate at this point. I trust her alone in the house. I have to keep bedroom and bathroom doors shut, though, because she loves to rifle through the trash. Anyway, I was told to not put the crate up just yet in case I need it to assist in keeping still during her recovery.
She was such a good girl. Very well behaved and that's saying something. Here's why. Our vet, as I've mentioned before, is one of my best friends' father. She and her sister are vet techs. Our doc has retired and sold his practice. But he still comes in several times a week to consult and basically ease his patients into his absence. And my friend and her sister have since stopped working there since the sale of the practice. However, they were both in helping their dad today and between the two of them brought their 4 Jack Russels & 1 Weimareiner. Steely usually gets all crazy excited over the thought of a little dog. Hayden's (my friend) JRT is named Duelly and he absolutely loathes Steely. She pesters him to death. But she layed there and he stood between her two front legs. Miracle.
Anyway, that's what I mean by good girl. We sat in the breakroom waiting for Haydie to get there and she sat there and minded her manners. Dr. A wanted to know why I was wearing such high heels toting Steely around like that. Meh, I trust her to not kill me, I guess! :kgo_017:
Anyway, she weighs 106 lbs. A whopping 16 lbs. more than the last time we were there several months ago.
We managed to get out of there 1 1/2 hours later with a bottle of Animal Pharmaceuticals, Inc. soap free Aloe & Oatmeal shampoo and a bottle of Chlorhexidine shampoo.
I'll keep ya'll updated on Steely's allergy progress.
Great day at the vet! I can't wait to go home and love on my girl!!!
