OMG...that service dog video brought tears to my eyes.. That dog actually looked both ways as he crossed the street.. This breed is truly amazing. I can't tell you how many buyers I have told "I don't have the words to tell you what this dog will be, but you will see" and they do...owning a newf is an 'experience'. Our Bobby Shafto became the most awsome service dog to his co owner. ON HIS OWN with no training formally. He goes absolutely everywhere with her. As a matter of fact her doctor requests she bring him. Pulls her wheel chair, turns by hand signals, alerts her to convulsions, goes in restuarants...It is amazing. We had another one,'Blue' who's owner wrote a similiar story to me. These people take them to a certifier and show what they can do to get the certifycation papers..that is all. These dogs have something wonderful about them...I don't have a word for that quality...empathy? a sensitive knowing? something.. I feel blessed to have them as my best friends.

Ted..you are right..it would have been better...but why didn't anyone ask before making a judgement? After all, we are the 'newf professionals'..When she called me we talked about everything and I asked.. I knew a whole lot about her before we ever got into the dog talk. I realize everyone is not geared like that...I was totally fascinated by her up bringing..and still am. By the way. she also told me she was a former newf owner. Which cleared up alot.

could we turn this thread into a thread about service dogs? I bet there are alot or stories out there...
Maybe someone with service dog knowledge could start a new thread with information, stories etc which should go in the Working Dog forum.
If it is started here I think it will just get lost in the hundred and whatever previous posts.

Personally, I think that PMS is much worse than menopause.

So does that mean the the only people who should be allowed to post in forums must be either over or under their "fertile" years...or...male??
