Gosh... it should be so simple....yet it isn't. I am just curious .....
Most people I meet pronounce it differently.

NEWFOUNDLAND

Some say Newfunland .. some say NewFINland and some NewFOUNDland.

What's your take on it.

Well, it could be NewFUNland, but shouldn't be pronounced that way!! I would say it is Newfin-land.

OK, I had better retrain myself.........In Australia most say it as three separate words.
New-found-land. Having listened to the miriam-webster I will change that, Ronnie

I thought the dog breed was pronounced one way and the province pronounced with the emphasis on "land".

But, what do I know. I only live in a state that borders Canada.

I guess that I am the odd man out. I am one of the New FUN Land types. Comes from being originally from New England

Good one. I thinks I've said it every which way at different times depending how fast your talking ,what your talking about and who your talking to. I would think Newfoundland to be the correct one but Newfinland usually comes out.

All ya gotta do is give me a call on the phone and ask me where I live. Then again, maybe I say it wrong as well. :)

To pronounce it as we Newfoundlanders do it's...

NEW-fin-LAND - emphasis on NEW and LAND - not on "found" . Found is pronounced as 'fin'. and it's NOT lind - it's LAND.

Deb - born and bred Newfoundlander.
