Prayers for Owen,

New Update: Owen has started to eat, keeps drinking alot, hates the ecollar, and now seems to be constipated. We will see. He is not happy with his large condo, but would like to find his own spot WITHOUT the e collar. He still is bleeding slightly from the incision area only when he forgets and starts to lay on that side. Dr. said it is fairly normal to have that happen, and of course it is not gushing, just fluids mixed with blood. He was not weight bearing yesterday or so far this morning. He will be left in his condo for a short while this morning as I have Xrays to be taken (nothing serious) and then to school for at least 3 hours. I am hoping all his meds will kick in and that he will just sleep. WHAT a learning experience. Not one I wanted to encounter. I did sleep for 3 and a half hours last night, WHEW it felt good! I forgot to mention his incision is about 14 inches long and the Dr. says he did not count the amount of stitches but theres a BUNCH. If I knew how to link a photo in my post I would, not to gross anyone out but to allow others to see what this process is all about, and that the terrible way they look might be quite normal after a procedure like this. Of course I did not really know the extent of the visual I would see, and it is a shocker. GIddy has been extremely helpful with advice and tips, thank goodness for NN and all the good wishes, prayers, and advice! Once again your thoughtfulness is so appreciated.

Thanks for the update Cissy ... things sounds ok and I certainly hope all goes well while you are gone today. As for the ongoing bathroom issues ... well, anyone who has ever had surgery requiring anesthesia knows that that stuff does crazy, not so pleasant, things to your body. Tell Owen bud to hang in there!

Ohhhhh....I have my fingers crossed for you and your pup.

I will say a prayer and ask our old Newf to watch out for yours tomorrow.

Just came in on the end of this. Healing thoughts and hugs being sent your way. Even things which we're told are "normal" during rehab always seem worse when you love someone so much and are watching their every step towards recovery. Hang on in there, it WILL get better & give yourself the credit you're due - don't lose sight of the fact that you did it for the good health & love of Owen. Chill out a bit with Owen, you BOTH deserve it!!

Thanks for the update, I've been wondering how things were going during the last couple of days -

Sounds like Owen is on his way to recovery! It's good to hear that things are progressing and that Owen is doing well. Glad he's eating as it indicates he's feeling pretty good. And I'm sure this is an experience that you won't soon forget...!

to ALL of you up there -

My 5 yr. old newf has been through 2 cruciate surgeries. The first was a partial tear and the second a complete one. The impt. thing is to keep Owen only walking in a straight line as best you can. I'm sure the doc told you to avoid turning. When getting into the van or up and down steps, which are unavoidable at my place, I put a towel under Bailey's stomach just in front of the back legs. Helping her up this way, kept the stress off the leg. A week into her recovery, she bounded up after hearing the doorbell ring; she then crashed on the hardword floor spread-eagled. I nearly had a heart attack, but even with that, her recovery went fine. You may want to disengage the doorbell and avoid the Dominoes commercials!!!

I'm so glad to hear that he's doing better. Baby steps....

Now YOU try to get some sleep. You must be exhausted.

Will continue to send healing thoughts Owen's way.
