Well, it's nothing special but here's my big guy enjoying a big snowfall last year. Alas, no snow yet this season:

It happened once to Neptune, (BlackNewfs/Sandra's Neptune.)

Hypothermia while swimming in cold water. Here's the thread:

Happened to Chance too, his first winter here. Same reason, same result. However, he came here from Atlanta, had little coat, and was 8.5 yrs old. Now his coat is very thick and lush, he loves the cold, but has learned to stay OUT of the pond.

My Goldens and other Newfs swim in ice cold pond water during the winter. Sometimes they have to break the ice to swim (it's never more than about 5" thick here), and none have ever gotten cold. But we do get them inside and dried off after that swim because their coats will freeze.

Thanks; I read that thread. It's going to be 17 degrees tomorrow. Orka is so happy, insisting on being outside, joining the labs across the street frequently for runs and romps in the ice, rolling and wrestling and coming back wet and wanting to stay outside. Just wondered what I should watch for and that thread gave me the answers!

YES we need a calander of all the dogs on NN - and the profit can go to NEwfi rescue! I can do layout, but not printing else you would all have to import it - seems silly, We could just do a calander you print of and ringbind your self, then next year do it more properly for charity etc?

LOL, we had a calendar at one time. I don't remember who organized it tho. It had to be 6+ years ago because Mira was in it and she was a puppy! I still have it put away.

Here are a few pictures I wanted to share with you. They are not a part of the contest, but I thought the exposures in these shots is really great. It's so hard to photograph in the snow, and black and white moving targets makes it even more difficult. Blizzard is a Yogi and Montana pup born 6/2009 and Addie is his accross the street girlfriend. Blizzard's Dad is a photographer, so I get pictures of Blizzard all the time. He is growing into a beautiful boy. I am sure Doug would donate a picture for a calendar if it was for a Newfie benefit. I have permission to share these pictures.

So many awesome pix! We went to the park this morning in 17 degrees. Orka waded in the river and the water froze as icicles to him fast. He did not even notice! He was running and playing and howling for 2 hours and not 1 shiver. Then we came home and slept for 4 hours. He loves this weather!

Got snowshoes, going to get snow boots this weekend and head up to the Mt Hood Cascades. This thread put us over the edge :D
