Our Ruby The Red Dog

It has been almost two years since Ruby stopped climbing in our bed but she continues to have a wonderful quality of life. She had demodex or puppy mange to add to the Yeast and ear problems but after months of treatment she looks all recovered. We never expected the hair to grow back around her neck and on her face but it did, we never expected her to make it this long but she has. Last winter I watched her enjoy laying out in the cold weather knowing it would be her last and now I am happy to report how wrong I was and she plans on doing it again this year. She will be fourteen in February and has taught me that you can spoil s Newfie too much. She is up around 5 a.m. to go outside every morning no matter how late she goes out the night before. She barks long and loud to be fed after she comes back in and after all her wants are met in about an hour or so she goes back to sleep. However I am up for the day, all in all I wouldn't trade these morning for a little extra sleep for anything. I'll nap in the afternoon.

One more month to her 14th birthday. Funny that when the fur grew back on her muzzle the Grey didn't come back.

So precious, give her a big hug from me.
Btw, my Gracie was 14 3/4yr and I treasured each minute with her.

Ruby just turned 14 years old this morning and she is doing well. We have always tried to feed her the better foods and she has been healthy her whole life. As I sit here she is taking her morning nap and lightly snoring.

As recently as last summer I never thought she would see this day. Thanks everyone for the good wishes, She is going to get her own jr. burger for supper.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes but Ruby has taken a turn for the worse. It is like her goal was to reach this birthday and soon leave us. She has lost her appetite and doesn't want to stand. I feel we are at the point of planning her final arrangements, if nothing improves and I doubt it will. We have done this once before and will probably do it twice more after this. It breaks our hearts but it can only be delayed for just a little longer.
