Our Ruby The Red Dog

On the 26th of October Ruby will be 12years and 8 months. She has a major Yeast Infection that she finally appears to be beating with the help of a new Vet.

She has become unsteady on her feet but still stands to eat and can go outside to take care of her duties including barking at anything that uses the roads around our house. Hopefully when she finishes this medication most of the balance issue will clear up. She still has a great quality of life and enjoys all kinds of treats.

Because of her age we spoil her shamefully which makes her very demanding but at some point she will take no for an answer. At the moment she is napping next to her adopted son Lester the Landseer on the kitchen floor.

Ahhh...love the old dogs...they are just so special! Glad you are giving in to her whims...she deserves it after all! Hopefully she will be back to feeling spry after the infection goes completely away!

Almost 13, how wonderful is that!!! God, I certainly pray I get these great ages I'm hearing about. Love the oldies and goodies! Best wishes Ruby!

Thanks for everyone's good wishes. She continues to improve but has a stubborn ear infection caused by both yeast and bacteria that hopefully should clear up in the next few weeks. She is also on a drug called Soloxine (0.8mg) as Thyroid medicine that has really helped her energy level and balance.

Today is Rubys 13th birthday and she has just finished her last round of ketoconazone for her Yeast problem. She continues on her Thyroid medicine at the same dosage from last summer and while she doesn't act like a puppy she has gotten back to where she was a couple of years ago. We thought we would probably lose her last Summer but changing to a younger and more medically current Vet seems to be what she needed! She gets spoiled shamelessly and even wants us to go to bed when she does.
