Is it bad that I want to blow off my family get-together to come to Michigan?
Well Sharon..... I think you could rationalize this GTG as a family reunion of your other wide spread family to meet the ones you have never met.......especially all the four legged ones! :D

This sounds like so much fun! We're only about 4 hours away. It would be our 1st Newfie get together and I can't think of people or dogs I'd rather spend time with!. Can't wait for updates!

Hi,
We will have updates here and on our Facebook event page
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/event.php?eid=101110239941674

I strongly suggest making reservations now if you have any desire to come. Just find out the cancellation policy and cancel if you can't attend. The hotel rates are getting higher and higher and some of the houses for rent are already booked. Being from Michigan you are probably aware of how hard it is to get a room in Traverse City in July on short notice.
If you go back a couple pages you will see links to 3 different hotels that will welcome our Newfs.

Looking forward to meeting you if you can attend

Hi Kelly, I am originally from Michigan--we lived in Thompsonville-Benzonia area and did all our big shopping in Traverse City:D I so wish I could come back for a visit--especially with my boy;D However starting in June, I am going to be in grad school and have some clinicals and then internship obligations to take care of in Massachusetts. So I think my traveling budget has been spent seven ways to Sunday:D I would love to show my husband the Sleeping Bear Dunes and all of the outdoor beauty Michigan has to offer. I live in ND where there are no trees really to speak of and it is really flat! I hope everything goes well and I will be thinking of you all wishing I could be there!!

Good morning everyone! We've got 15 weekends before the giant party...I mean the Newfie Get Together at Jack and Kelly's in Michigan!

We would like to raffle off some goodies while we're there and raise some funds for rescue......in my case, at least, doing good for the newfies justifies all my bad behavior while I'm hangin' with my newfy pals!

Let's have some fun with it....there are people attending from all over, so wouldn't it be fun to donate something from your neck of the woods...like the regional baskets at the Nationals! Let's be honest here.....I'll take whatever y'all want to give! Newf related, dog related, booze related (wine, wine, wine...hint), smart aleck related, etcetera.

You can either bring the item(s) with you, or you can PM me for my address and send it to me in Florida where I can get stuff organized (theoretically, anyway).

And don't be shy....if you're not coming to Michigan in July but would like to help us rationalize our behavior and help the Newfs....I'll take your stuff too!

Rationalize our behavior?? Love this!!

I have one of these for the basket

and I can pick up some Michigan shaped dog treats made from local cherries from the local dog bakery for the baskets.

Case of Idaho wine will be shipping to Kelly's covered in Idaho Newfie Floogers. That should go for BIG bucks!!!

I was just talking with Christina . She went to the Quality Inn website. The Quality Inn by the Bay (one that will accept the Newfs) now starts at $109 for the 15-18th of July. If you book now you can get the rate down to $93, but that rate is non-refundable. Those are phenomenal rates for Traverse City in the summer. You need to be a Choice Privileges member to get the rate, but it's easy to join

Hiya folks, I haven't been here for a long time, mainly because I lost Breeze and then a year later Hamish. Having adopted rescues and rehomes for nearly 27years, my hubby and I decided to have a break for a while.
However, after 2 and half years and some major health issues for both of us, we're back on the newfie treadmill! We received a phone call from the UK rescue asking if we would be willing to take a 9 year old re home. As soon as I can remember how to post photos I will introduce Bailey. His family were forced to give him up due to very sad circumstances. He's been well looked after and loved and we hope we can bring the sparkle back to his eyes, after he gets over the shock of losing his family.
Anyhow, the reason for this post (finally!) is that I will be in Michigan for the show in Frankenmuth, sadly only for one day, either the Wednesday or the Thursday, (the friend I'm staying with, will bring me.) I would love to meet any of the Newf Net folks, who will be there.
