Just joined the Newf Net and am excited to get to know fellow Newf owners. My son has two Newfoundlands and asked me to go to the shelter to adopt a Newf that he saw came in. We did and fell in love with the breed. We named him Murphy. Unfortuneately, someone severely abused Murphy and after three years and his third bite we had to put him down. We went to obedience training and had people over, tried to desensitize him, nothing worked. We could not allow people to walk into the yard. I never cried so hard.

So I bought two pups and named them Calvin and Hobbes. They will be 2 on April 15th. They hear about Murphy all the time and hear how much I loved him but I also love them to death.

How anybody could ever beat a Newf is beyond me and everytime I think what they had to do to Murphy to get him to that point, still brings tears to my eyes. I loved that Dog! Calvin and Hobbes fills my void. Takes two to replace my Murphy. They are sweeties. My husband says if I raised my kids like I raise my dogs I would have deliquents!!! :kgo_027:

I shed a tear with you for Murphy .....so very sad, but you did the best for him and gave him love.....
I have also had to deal with a newfy who was sadly mistreated, except i was very lucky and had several people dedicate their time to her and even though she has a bite history, she has survived and is still with us......Why do people have to give some dogs such a miserable life
Bless you for giving Murphy love and peace....and giving him a home that loved him
Now welcome to this forum with your young ones. They are obviously happy
Welcome from Ronnie, Annabelle, Katy, Tessa and Lukey

Welcome from Virginia (soon to be northern Indiana!).

Poor Murphy! It sounds like you did the best you could for him.

We fostered, then adopted, an adult rescue. Not sure what she went through in her first "home", but she's not good with other dogs, used to be scared to death of the hose or any sudden noise, and didn't have a clue how to play with a toy or catch a ball. After 5 years with us, she's gotten over most of her issues, loves toys and playtime, loves every person she meets, but she still is unpredictable with other dogs (so we're very careful around them).
