Has anyone had a dog bit by a brown recluse before? Yesterday Jake's foot was swollen up to the hock, black and blue and looked very infected. My vet thought snake bite at first.
This morning the swelling was down, but he had 3 holes in his foot. I ran him back to the vet. He now says it is a brown recluse bite. He literally has 3 holes on either side of his one toe. I can look inside and see his ligaments, muscules, etc. The skin and tissue have been eaten away. I have to keep it clean and pack it with sugar packs to help with the dead tissue. If the top of his toe starts to get like this and turns black, he may have to have surgery to remove that nail and possibly part of his toe. But it looks like there is no infection now. He said the poison from the spider bite literally kills the tissue.
So does anyone else had this happen? I wont even let him go outside unless he has two socks on and that is just to go to the bathroom.
