Irresponsible Breeder

While conducting rescue work, my husband was attacked by a beautiful 2 yr old newf on March 26. Some of you may have seen my thread under Rescue. I was appalled by the response of the breeder. The breeder wanted to know if he was neutered. This dog's sire had died of stomach cancer last Oct. She said she was so relieved he "locked up" three times with a female in the days before he died.

I simply cannot believe the breeder did not care what happened to one of her dogs......and the temperament issues. I wish there was a proper venue to share this information...but will leave it at this. This breeder has puppies available now and is actively breeding, with no regard for the dogs. I am sending her copies of the hospital visit as a reminder. Kim

Very sad situation, and I hope your husband is doing okay.

As far as this dogs 'breeder', and I use that term lightly, is concerned, I consider her one of the worse, BYB's. She breeds constantly and advertises on all the 'puppyfind' websites. She does not care where the pups go, as long as the person sends her money. There are no health checks, and even though she has a contract stating the dog is to be returned to her if it can not be kept, she doesn't follow through. She does not care about anything but the money. She doesn't care that someone was injured trying to help this dog. She doesn't care that the second family who tried to help this dog, was not allowed in their own back yard for months! She doesn't care that a Newfoundland puppy she produced, was in a horrible home before others tried to help him.

IMO, for anyone who purchases a Newfoundland from the Internet, Please think before you give a stranger your money! No matter how CUTE the photos are, or how much that person tells you everything you want to hear! Stop and think about what happens to the 'others' who don't get into a 'good' home like yours. This woman has the money from the sales of puppies to continue to breed over and over again. She 'talks' a very good and sympathetic 'game'! Not all puppy buyers are good homes, and not all breeders raise the puppies to become good family members. If a breeder isn't there to take back ALL the dogs they produce, they have no reason to be breeding!

Okay, off my soap box.

Thank You Kim for helping. I know it was difficult.

OMG Kim! I hope your husband was not hurt badly, and he is recovering fully. What an ordeal! Bless you both for even trying to help. When dealing with any dog that chance is always a factor, but a Newf?!? It is so sad that some "producers" (I won't call them breeders because as Susan so perfectly stated, if they aren't their for their dogs for the dogs' entire lives, they are not breeders.) since all they do is produce like a production line, create these dogs and let them out on unsuspecting people who don't take the time to check breeders out before giving their money. What is going to happen to the dog? I'll check the rescue thread to see if my answer is there. Again, I am so sorry to hear this, and hope you both recover from this experience.

Sorry for your experience. Unfortunately, I cannot say anything else, or GAD would most likely suspend me, and my Mom always told me "If you can't say something Nice, don't say anything." I try to abide by that, sometimes I slip.

Kim, I am so sorry to hear about your husband:( I hope that he recovers fully. What is to become of the newfy? This is so sad, and it is sickening in that it is preventable by the breeder if they would be educated about responsible breeding and not look at breeding as a money maker. Again Kim so sorry for you guys :hugs: hoping for better days ahead!

The newfie was euthanized after his quarantine time was up. There was no other safe choice....very sad. Kim
