Well gang, just met with the surgeon. Elwood is going in tomorrow I remove the spindle cell tumor (with a CT scan first to see how deep it goes. Hopefully not through the chest wall). They're going to look in his throat before heavy sedation and will likely do the lar par tie back. The surgeon was great and said he'd do it if by was his dog but I'm in a panic. I don't want to lose him to a lar par 'event' but I'm terrified of him aspirati his food and getting pneumonia. Would somebody please remind me why I got a dog in the first place? I'm a MESS!!!!

Oh my! I'm so sorry, but I know exactly where your fears are coming from. I have the same dilemma with Spirit and his Lar Par. It seems like a 50/50 sort of toss up.

Either way, it boils down to quality of life.

From what I have read, quality of life improves with the surgery. At least that's what many people have said. And he can aspirate even without the surgery, from what I hear. So that's a big plus for doing the surgery. And I believe that since he has to have the tumor removed, having the tie back now, makes good sense.

But I still understand your fears and I know how real they are. I've struggled with this ever since I got Spirit.

Trust the surgeon, trust yourself, and trust Elwood. We'll all be praying for the quickest recovery and best outcome.

Please let us know how he continues to do.

And you know why you got a dog. Because there is no finer thing in the world than the love of a dog.

Awww Elwood will be in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure he'll be JUST FINE. You're trusting your gut here and it won't lead you wrong. You are doing the best you can for Elwood and he knows it. I can't wait to hear updates tomorrow - he'll rock the surgery, I just know it!!

Thanks so much you guys, and Jane you are right on all counts. I've made the decision to go through with both surgeries (Jane, they say afterward the pooch is back to normal breathing wise) and I'm good with that. But I just saw Ronnie lost Yussie and my heart is shattered for them.

Sam's had a number of health ups and downs recently including possible lar par and beginning to lose his eyesight. My mom asked why I have an animal that causes me so much stress. 😐 Because he gives me so much else, that's why. Glad to see me 24/7, loves me, wants to be with me all the time, makes me laugh with his goofiness, makes me feel safe when he is walking with me...

The same reasons you love Elwood, I'm sure. ❤ Praying for you and Elwood.
