I have the fever ... puppy fever!

Sigh ...

Me and Troy have discussed (and I agreed) that we shouldn't get a puppy until next fall, after we get married. But I have puppy fever.

We just spent the week since Charlie got neutered at my parents place, their puppy (Hailey - the german wire-haired pointer) is 5 months old now, and is big enough to make a good playmate for Charlie - he was so happy to have her to play with whenever he wanted. It was quiet play (since he was fresh post-neuter) but he could play non-the-less

He has been seriously depressed since we got home, and I just think he really needs another dog around, and I really want another puppy.

But - I know - it does make the most sense to wait until after the wedding.

!!BUT I DON'T WANT TO!!

Sigh ..

I'm right there with you! We were planning on getting another puppy this spring, but it has been pushed back to next fall or maybe even spring 2011. AHHHHH!!!!!

Is there any cure for puppy fever? besides a puppy....

more cow bell????

Nope there is no cure, once infected the only way to get rid of your fever is to get one of those cute cuddly little bear cub look alikes, which takes care of it usually for at least a year or two. Well they are like potato chips ya know.

What about fostering a dog for a rescue? It's a hard time of the year for older puppies in rescue as many places are trying to prevent puppies going home as gifts, and most families are overlooking the adults/young adults since "puppies" are what people think of when they adopt this time of the year. You get to save a life for the holidays and still give Charlie a playmate!

I have come to terms with the fact that I constantly live in a state of puppy fever! Like you and Charlie, I feel like Ayasha REALLY wants a playmate. Whenever this topic is brought up with the other half, I can see the fear glaze over in his eyes, the visions of crazy puppy behaviour still very fresh in his mind and he says "NO WAY!"

I am working on it, but it's a tough battle. I think once we get ourselves sorted out in the new house I would like to consider fostering.

I wish you luck in breaking the fever. There really is only one cure. ;)

I've learned it's easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission!:!rolling: :!rolling: But I also have a very forgiving husband!

Earlier today I was just thinking what Sue said about it being easier to beg for forgiveness. There are so many newfs that need a home. I am not sure how forgiving my husband would be.. :) I am convinced that Tank needs a brother....she just loves her BFF, Miko. I hope it works out for you!!!

I just want to add my "vote" for you to foster...who knows the foster may be exactly who you are looking for and then "hubby" will hopefully see that. If not, you will be helping to save a life and giving your baby a buddy.

Very unfortunately I know the feeling! Usually I'm "immune" to puppy fevers, but I just would love to have the next working dog again. Capri's got her hip so I can't work with her properly (well I still do train her but her endurance isn't the same as before and I can't do what I want, I have to do what she is able to and what she likes to do :)) , Ruuti's not my dog so I don't have any motivation to train her properly (I do train her, but I don't have the motivation to really train her as she'll be returning to my parents after winter) and Vera's pregnant going to have a litter next week.. So I just have try and keep my head cold for now: I know we can't have any more dogs right now. Vera's pup would be something I still fantasize about for myself right now (though luckily we have a co-ownership family who'll be taking the one I would want for myself :)). I just have to try to remember that Vera's coming back to me after winter and I can continue with her properly after that :D!

Wow! There are so many on here who a) have puppy fever and b) have to wait until they get married to do so. I'm in the same spot; the worst part is that my Love has puppy fever too! So we both keep talking about it but our living situation is NOT dog-friendly and so we have to wait in order to get a place that we own (so that we can add our own sturdy fence and other things if we want)... not to mention travel abroad plans and all that... it's looking like we'll get a pup in '12! Ahhhh. But many of the lovely people here had awesome recommendations and so I'll be trying some of those in between now and then.

I would consider fostering ... however, where I live right now isn't conducive for fostering.
When I lived in the city, yes, but I live 3 hours away from the big city, and I won't have the time to be making treks back and forth to do veterinary care and such. I also have the issue that me and Troy had only started dating when I got Charlie, so he missed a lot of the puppy growing up stuff. Troy wants to experience that, and we have self-imposed a 2 dog limit. I would definitely be a foster failure, and then Troy would miss out on the puppy fun!

I am going to contact the breeders I have been in touch with before and see what their planned litters are and go from there.

There are Isabel's pups being born now with Peter.... :run:
When my husband came home from work today I told him about the pups asap! If they accept applications to adopt from way down here in TX we just might have to be one of them!
