wait till you put a cool coat on them and get accused of cruelty, actually had an rspca inspector talk to me at one of the dog shows as someone had told her I was abusing my animal.

you have to roll and take the rough with the smooth though I usually try to take the time to educate and try and put people off having one unless they are really serious.

also wait till you get asked if you have a labradoodle

I love talking about them so I don't mind educating but it's the people that try to argue that bother me.

THIS. I'll talk to anyone about anything, but when you tell me my dog is clearly a Black Golden Retriever, or argue with me and try to "educate" me about her likes/dislikes with attitude, be prepared!

Clearly it is time to give people in the southern U.S. better Geography lessons :)

I had Nala down at the river yesterday to get her feet wet and see if she would give swimming a shot. She waded in after me until the water was up to her belly and decided that was far enough. So close!

Anyway, while we were there, a man came up to me and asked what kind of dog she was. Upon telling him she was a Newfoundland, he proceeded to tell me he had a "White Newfoundland" a few years back that looked exactly like a polar bear. I just smiled and said, "Wow cool, I didn't know they came in white."

Great thread.

What I love the most is neighbors I don't really know, but see often when walking Ben, say to me out of the blue "Boy, that dog must be OLD now."

I have had THREE black Newfoundlands.....in 18 years. Ben is my third. It's not the same dog....

We always get, "Do you have a saddle for that dog", "what kind of a dog IS that", "He looks like a bear", "Is that one of those GIANT breed dogs"? Really?? It does get annoying...but I guess it comes with the territory!

I'm glad to answer questions, especially w/ my brown newf, Antares. What bothers is when I just explained what type of dog he is, for the person to turn to their young child and tell him to look at the bear.

That irks me sometimes too, especially when they SERIOUSLY think I have a bear. Really? You think I'm actually walking a long haired bear, you moron??

Now I have had people tell me she looks like a big teddy bear ( always women ) with a smile, and I'm ok with that.

Actually, it really depends on the mood I'm in that day. :shuffle:

I have enjoyed this thread very much!!

We get lots of attention every time we go out with our girl. The thing I hate the most is the comments said under the breath like, "Boy, that dog will be miserable this summer!" Like we can't hear them!!!

Also, if our girl goes out like this, she is always called a HIM. LOL

Wow, where were you?
Oswald's Bear Ranch here in the U.P.
Every year they take in a few orphaned cubs from all over the states and hand raise them. In the spring you can go in and feed and get your picture taken with them. It was a really neat experience! :)

A: I agree, the under the breath comments are grating.

B: She is so flipping cute.
