With my landseer I get "is that a St. Bernard?" No I say, a Newfoundland. Then they say, "oh, I've never seen a B/W newf,". To which I reply, in my head, "WE'LL HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A B/W ST.BERNARD?!?!" Only cause I get that exact scenario a few times/week! Lol

Oh, with her B/W color, I've also been told more than a few times, "she looks like a cow!" Really? (She's not even big, 80lbs!)

One we get often- "What kind of dog is that?" "A Newfoundland." "Oh, you mean a Newfindland?" "No really I mean a Newfoundland." "Honey, I was right. It's a Newfindland."

I talk fast and people probably think say "fin" instead of "found". I'm sure it has nothing to do with my accent......My aunt is convinced I have a "neuf" and my boss just knew I had a "Newfoundlander"

People ALWAYS think Turner and Willow are a mix of some sort because they are landseers. So we get all of the typical questions and then have to explain that the landseer is an accepted color for the breed and no they were not a mistake. Also are they related? I love when I take Willow out without Turner and they call her a boy and exclaim over how big she is and I just laugh to myself and think if you think she's big you should see her brother. I love talking about them so I don't mind educating but it's the people that try to argue that bother me.

Join the club. I always said I was going to get a tee shirt with all the info I could fit on it. :)

Just wait till you get a second Newf and go walking places with 2 of them!
I use to walk 3 seven to eight years ago, and none of them where mine at the time. And every once in a while still someone ask me if I have two or three.

This. We have relatives in Maine and take Maggie with us to visit (they have 2 newfs...). On the way home we usually stop at Kittery Trading Post but dogs are not allowed. My husband and I take turns sitting outside with Maggie. We sit right outside the door and she loves all the attention and belly rubs! But don't do this if you don't want to talk to 90% of the people that walk by!

I love talking about Newfs so only the really annoying people bother me.
With Gracie I always got, "oh she's small for a newf". But she was within the standard so that's what I always said.. Misha is bigger than Gracie & I haven't heard it, yet. :)
I was so excited when someone in Petsmart said "A baby newfie!" LOL!
I hate it when people say "oh she must get so hot, when are you shaving her?"
I keep my house at about 70 in the summer and 67 in the winter. She's good. :)
I try to do a lot of educating because there are WAY too many byb's out there.
And I try to keep my cool when people say really stupid things like the cashier at Petsmart, "I really want a great dane newf mix.". I said "you want a mutt. The shelter is down the street.".

I've finally learned to embrace the ignorance. We live in Newport, RI and Elwood LOVES people, so on cooler days I will walk him downtown to meet his public. I swear it's as if it were the zombie apocalypse and he is the last warm-blooded creature on earth! Last Saturday it took us an hour to get four blocks and he was in HEAVEN!!!! I attempt to handle all of the questions with grace (not easy not to laugh in their faces at times. 'Portuguese Water Dog?? REALLY???), educate them as best I can, and basically let my big, giant goober be an ambassador for his breed. Granted it's tough when he gets excited and barks in people's faces, but I'm working on that!

We stopped at my sister's in Chicago last summer while we were moving from Colorado to New Jersey. My husband and I went into a shop while my sister stayed outside with Suki. She was swarmed with people. One woman wanted to read her aura and Suki's aura too. After a while, my husband went out to give my sister a break. As he walked around the street near the shop someone ran up to him and said "Is this the dog that is moving to New Jersey!?!" Suki was famous for a few minutes. lol

I love talking to people about Suki, and I met one of my favorite friends because of her!

As for the pronunciation, I think I say "new fin land." I definitely slur the "found" into something like "fin." My relatives from Canada call her a NewfinlandER … but I think the ER on the end signifies the people from Newfoundland. They also pronounce the province "Newfinland." But they are from western Canada, and I suppose only the people from Newfoundland can really tell me how to pronounce it.

One of my closest friends is from Newfoundland, and they pronounce it the same way, NEWfindlund.

I get this A LOT! And when I say I never plan to shave her, they look at me like I'm an animal abuser.

I also get a lot of people that say "OMG she is so cute. I am definitely going to buy one!" to which I respond with all of the cons of a Newf in the hopes they don't make an impulse buy from a puppy mill.

And as other's have said, I call her a "New-fin-land". My friend is from Toronto, and I asked him how to pronounce it, and that is the pronunciation he gave me, so I've been going with that.
