How to contact rescue

I know this is something most of us think we will never need. The fact is however, at some point someone on NN may need to rehome their beloved fur kid.

It will not be the fault of the person nor the fault of the dog. Some times life just takes over and as the responsible owers we are placing our dogs needs above our own must happen.

Though we have have a forum here on rescue it is not the place to post free dog, or x dog needs to be rehomed. It is not a place to post looking for a dog to rescue. This is a place to organize transport or contact foster homes and tell our success stories.

Therefore, I would like to post 2 links for newf rescue. As well as a phone number

The phone number belongs to Jenn she does rescue in Nevada though there is no such thing as too far away if an animal is need. She is on a few rescue lists and i would trust her with my own dogs.702 400 8278

The first is the NCAs rescue link. Those of us who are NCA rescue reps and are affiliated with our local clubs are listed on this page.
http://www.newfdogclub.org/Main_Sub_Pages/ws13_rescue.htm

The second link is for a group of us who may not be NCA members but are deeply committed to this breed and their well being. It is simply called newf rescue.

I can assure anyone who is going to these links, those affiliated with them have been screened and reccomended to these sights as rescue reps. If i needed to place my own dogs i would willingly use any of the folks on either of these sights.

Fantastic post Gwyn ... I hope it becomes a sticky (hint, hint). However, one thing to mention is that people often forget their breeders. If you find that, for whatever reason, you need to rehome your dog, please check your contract from your breeder (assuming you got one). Most reputable breeders insist that their dogs are rehomed through them. This serves two purposes: First, it ensures that a breeder can serve out their full responsibility ... for the life of the dog that they brought into this world and second, and most importantly, it keeps already-tasked rescue groups from being flooded with dogs who could be rehomed through their breeders.

Excellent point Erin. Alot of breeders have contracts, and if that's the case, the terms of the contract need to be followed. If there's no contract, and the breeder is "decent" then they should be contacted.

I have had a few people tell me that they got their newfs from either a BYB, pet store, or "mill", and that they'd prefer not to return the dog to these. In these cases, I concur.

There are also times when someone doesn't know how to get in touch with their breeder. This has happened a couple of times when we've been taking in a dog. We have been able to contact the breeder. In most cases, the Breeder has been awesome and steps in. They either take the dog, or allow us to place the dog in an approved home. And, when this happens, they have happily paid for any medical expenses.

But whenever possible, contact the breeder first, then rescue.

Just had a desparate call for help. A Friend called me about a Newf in a Lot of Trouble in IL. I don't really know who to ask for Help. This poor Guy is in Trouble. Seems that he's been left behind.

Further to Peter's post above, we've created an informational web site for Newf Rescue in Canada

www.newfrescue.ca

This is not a rescue group, just a resource listing the various rescues in Canada, since our breed club doesn't do rescue.

This site is in the early stages of development and we have plans to incorporate a number of aspects like upcoming events, fund raising initiatives for the various groups, etc. over the next few months.
