Home Improvement-Newf Style

Well, we'd been using the 30" baby gates since we have had the boys, and they finally realized they could step over and/or break down those pretty easily over the last week or so.....and kept making a bee-line for the kitchen where the oh so yummy cat food lives....... so instead of making a mad dash to the kitchen to pick up the cat food bowl every time we hear the gate crash like we have been doing, we decided it was time to fix that little issue.
I priced out buying one of the taller gates, and looked at some of the metal gates, but they were all $75+ and that was a bit steep for me. I spent about $50 total for supplies and we now have this:

Now just have to sand it lightly, prime it, paint it, and it'll work just fine. I'm pretty confident this gate won't be breached, either! :)
Newf inspired home improvement.........who'd a thought it? :D :D

What you can't see from that angle is Thor's look of sheer frustration and Magnum's hurt expression.

Remember the scene in "Jurassic Park" where Robert Muldoon talks about how smart the velociraptors are ... because they would test the fences for weak points? Well, one of Thor's many nicknames is "The VelociraptorNewf" because he kept nosing or pawing or headbutting or stepping over the gate until it would fall.

The first thing he did with the new Thor-gate was stick a Newfie paw thru it and pull. Much to his chagrin, his maneuver was totally ineffective. He can even stand full height and weight on this one and it ain't going nowhere!!! :coffeedrink::groovy::allg069:

Gotta know the story behind this!
When Wash was a puppy through about 9 months he was banished to our laundry room while we were out. I also had been using baby gates to keep him from escaping, he kept escaping and the baby gates kept getting progressively taller and stronger, until I found the ultimate gate...

The gate worked wonderfully, could not get through it. He did find out however that he could chew through drywall to try to reach the kitchen on the other side. Someone was very proud of himself.

Son of Brooke!!! :!rolling::kiss:
What can I say? I turned my back on Georg while vacuuming yesterday. I was opening doors I'd been keeping closed. He got ahold of a bag of dog food. In an instant he tore a big hole in it and proceeded to eat. I clipped the bags with the strong clips so he couldn't open them anymore so he decided he'd just tear the bag apart.:oops:

We just put some into a metal tin to keep them out of it as well.

They haven't mastered jumping into the back of the Jeep yet - once they do that or hop the gate, they'll be going into agility classes!!! :!rolling:
There's always upper level obedience. I was inquiring with my trainer about upper level lessons for Brooke yesteday. She's way too active to retire yet.

In my house as you know it's the Rhodeys that confound everything. Gates, doors, tins etc. I would be happy to send Brandy to teach Thor and Magnum the finer points of outwitting humans. It would give me a few days peace.

Why should they jump into the Jeep..........Is it not your job to place them in the Jeep?
Don't you know your duties?...........So in my mind the gate will be jumped before the Jeep. It is all to do with want and need (their need)

Exactly!! Maggie waits patiently for me to lift her down from my Explorer. It has progressed to a staggering fall that is broken by me.

Good luck with those gates. Newfie paws are amazingly able to do most things unexpected, and you have double the trouble!!
