Heartbroken

I cannot imagine what it would be like to make such a decision. Please find comfort in knowing that Buddy is going to a wonderful, loving home. I have met the family, including their very happy-go-lucky Newf/Retriever mix. You are incredibly strong.

Oh Caitlin, I've followed your posts re Kayla & Buddy and cannot imagine what you have been going through. It is a devastating decision that you have had to make but I know you had to do it, both for the welfare of your darling little daughter, with her life threatening challenges and for the happiness of Buddy. Sometimes love is so painful......especially for the one who does the loving.........It's impossible to find the words to comfort you.....but know that so many of us feel for you and admire you for having the strength & love to make this decision. I don't what to say. It's so difficult to imagine having to come to this point but I feel it was inevitable for the health & happiness of everyone involved, including Buddy. You have shown how much you love and care for him even though your suffering is immeasurable. Many hugs to you and your family.

LuLu came to me from a home where she was loved but the safety of the children was the first concern and the decision was equally heartbreaking for them. She has been the finest gift I have ever received, she missed them for awhile but she quickly adapted to her new life. I send them pictures of all the fun things we do, the friends she has made and the places she has gone that they would not have been able to take her. I even made her "silly bib" because I knew the little girls would love seeing her in it.

Your decision to place Buddy in a new home was made from a place of love; for your family, for Buddy and for his new family. Never doubt that this is the right decision for you have given him everything he needs to be a wonderful gift in another home.

I hope Buddy's new family know how lucky they are - that boy is PERFECT. So gentle, so loving, so careful around babies! Big hugs from us here. Time eases all things, including heartbreak. Know that Buddy will be okay because Sandra would never give him to a home that wouldn't love him to pieces - and concentrate on you and your soon-to-be-born baby.

Well, we droppedd him off this morning, where he was really happy to meet some new friends. My husband had to drive because I couldn't stop crying, but I know he will be happy. I'll probably hang out here, if only to live vicariously through you guys with your wonderful pups. I'd miss the stories if I didn't come back once in a while. For now I occupy myself with a new project (I'm crocheting an army of 7-9 inch tall stuffed animals to donate to the childrens hospital - anything to occupy the time after my daughter goes to bed - I only have about 2 more months of peace anyways). Still haven't figured out a newf pattern for an animal, but may attempt a basset-like dog. Thanks everybody for all your support.

Tug - don't worry, Buddy brought his duck, frisbees and black dog with him, he loves playing with them so much!

Keeping busy is probably the best thing right now Caitlin. Hopefully you will soon be able to think of Buddy with all of your fond memories and be able to smile. He is a sweet boy, a testament to your love and care. I had to have a quick look around the house before Buddy left. Caera latched onto a couple of Buddy's toys - the duck and the black dog. I wanted to make sure he had everything to take with him.

Laura has "applied" for membership to Newf Net and promises to keep everyone up-to-date on Buddy's progress. They are a great couple and were so excited about Buddy that they drove one heck of a long distance to pick him up. He will be very well loved in his new home.

I have been following this. What Ronnie wrote is true. You did what you had to do for love-for both you child and dog.

I got an update on Buddy, and apparently his first night went very well, he and his new brother played until midnight then passed out on the carpet and slept. This is encouraging news and I plan on keeping the image of him playing all night in my mind whenever I miss him, I'm sure he's happy to have a playmate!

:hugs: And play he will -- having a new brother to romp and play with will make this transition so much easier for Buddy. He's got a great new home, and they are going to take very good care of your sweet boy. As updates come in, and you see pictures of him having the life you want for him, your heartache will ease. You did the right thing, for your family and for Buddy. :icon_knuddel:

This is such good news. Our Newfs are so resilient! Buddy won't forget you, but he is having so much fun, that he is not feeling any grief! Certainly, he doesn't want you to, either... You are such a good mom.

It takes a strong heart to do the right thing. You are a strong heart.
