Gracie my everything sweet

Her registered name was Toute Sweet, but she was Gracie to us. Gracie passed away at 6:45 tonight, in my arms in the backyard. Her breathing simply slowed as I kissed her goodbye. She was 12 yrs 3 months and 3 weeks. My heart is so broken even though I've been trying to prepare as she got older. I knew it wouldn't last forever, but she was my smart, spirited, dynamic water witch. I used to say she would have been a figurehead on a sailing ship. She was always looking ahead for adventure, from the day we brought her home. She was fearless in the water and never met a mud puddle, icy stream or even a bucket full she didn't love with all her heart. In 2009 she and her pal Xena leaped off a bluff in PEI into the ocean and headed for New Brunswick! My flying Newf.
I will never have another Newf, I think, as feisty, brave and sweet all in one wonderful dog. We miss you, our darling girl.

I am so sorry to hear that, it is never easy.

Something tells me she's found a new favorite swimming spot, and is using the rainbow bridge to jump from.

I'm so sorry for your loss... :( When I first took Max in to a then new vet, one of his comments was that Newfs are wonderful dogs, they just don't live long enough. RIP sweet Gracie...

Anne, I'm sorry that you lost Gracie. She was such a treat to read about. I could help but laugh at your PEI story. It's so true that while they never "leave us", our Newfs are never with us long enough.
