Frog Whomping Has Started!

I wish that I would have had a camera, but of course I didn't. Indy found a frog in the yard yesterday evening. She would nudge it with her nose until it jumped a few times. Then she would bring her foot crashing down on it to stop it. Then the whole process started over again until the frog decided to get smart and tried to play dead. It curled into a ball and didn't move. I thought it was dead because it wasn't breathing for a few seconds, but then it would breathe and alternately hold its breath for a few seconds. So, Indy started rolling it around the yard with her feet. She tried licking it once, but decided it didn't taste very good. Eventually those big feet did kill the poor little frog, and Indy decided to plop down and look it eye-to-eye. I finally convinced her that the game was over and that we had to go inside.

My guys love to hunt frogs. I am torn between feeling sorry for the frogs and revelling in the joy of my frog hunters. Here a clip of Ollie (Landseer) and Sue hunting in the long grass - which is now kept short much to their dismay.

Ah ha, I've seen that video numerous time Shel...I wondered if it was someone on NN. That video has made me laugh so much...So did the story Pam. Last time Zeke went frog hunting, he licked the frog and frothed and spit all the way home, I think some frogs have a defence mechanism and according to Zeke, it don't taste to good!

LOL Sue's tail never stopped wagging! We like to think of Morris as a frog rescuer, because his hair builds up in the pool filter and the frogs stuck inside float on top of the hairball until we get them out. Haha!

The name itself is hilarious. Frog whomping. They call our newfs gentle giants, but in the frog world their known as giant whomping devils.

And thank goodness we don't have frogs here. All I have to put up with is bug hunting which I fully support.

We also chase and whomp butterflies & moths, but they don't last nearly as long as the frogs so they aren't as fun!

I thought frog play was fun until Morgan licked it way to many times then had Hershey squirts for the following 2-3 days. She didn't learn her lesson but I did. First glimpse of a frog I take it out of the yard before she sees it. Well most of the time???
Is funny to watch though! Cute video!

Obie is a night frog hunter! I know what's up when I see him nose to ground then jumping back.. nose to ground.. jumping back, whomp, thump repeat. He then proudly comes inside licking and drooling. Yep, we have frog froth here as well. I haven't SEEN him kill one yet (it is very very dark where our frogs hide) but I wouldn't want to be the frog on the receiving end of his enthusiasm.

OMGoodness, funny, but I would have had to rescue the frog! "Hop away, little buddy!"

Max once pounced (or whomped on) a possum. I thought he killed it. I was scolding him, and he was very shame-faced, when the little devil got up and scooted off.

Not to be rude but I would have taken the frog away. I just didn't find letting a dog eventually kill one very nice or humorous. It is cruel. If it had been a cat or something else, I am sure the reactions would have been different...but maybe this is just me.
