Eye Information

Hello,
I took my 6 month old newfie to the vet three weeks ago because she woke up with a very red eye and green drainage coming out. The vet checked her eye pressure, checked for a scratched cornea, ran a few more tests to determine there was nothing serious going on and then after ruling out an injury to the eye prescribed antibiotics for her eye. The vet said to put the drops in twice a day for 7-10 days- I did it for three weeks straight because her eye still looked red. I brought her back in because her eye is still draining and looks red sometimes but the vet says to just keep it clean by wiping it with a warm wash cloth and that it is most likely just allergies. I know my own allergies have been horrible this year so it is possible she is just suffering from allergies. I am worried that there might be something wrong though and I do not want to just leave it because she sometimes covers her eye with her paw as if it is bothering her. Is this common for newfoundlands? Should I take her to see another vet or am I worried for nothing?

If you are worried then ask for a second opinion as at the worst you have spent a bit more money.
At the best you may may have solved an issue.
Can you do allergy testing - do food and enviromental if you can .

Also you can use humaneye drops or wash on dogs.one of my newfs used to get prescribed them.

If you are insured ask to see a specialist though it does .sound like your vet did a good initial examination but dont let them fob you off

Sorry forgot to ask has your baby got loose haws - baggy lower eyelids as my boy used to have this and every day l cleaned his eyes out.

Also if there is anymore discharge what colour is it.

Does sound like its sore though at times

Update: I took Scarlett to a second vet for a second opinion and they agreed with the first vet and think it is just allergies. The weather has been changing so drastically here lately so they are probably right. I am going to wait a few days and make sure to keep her eye clean and then will request a more thorough check if it does not look better. I took pictures but I do not see an option for loading them into this thread. Thanks for your help!
