Don't touch that DOG!

:mad:There's a FB plea circulating that is asking for help transporting two 12 week old newf pups from Alabama to Pennsylvania.
A woman named H**** decided to coordinate pulling the two pups from a shelter for herself without seeking assistance from Newf Rescue. She didn't realize the logisitics is getting something like this accomplished and the *project* has now overwhelmed her. The pups are in foster care and await transport.
Here's my problem...These two pups are positive for Parvo and she still wants them transported to her. She plans on keeping one and adopting one out. (she does rescue but she does it on her own and is not affiliated with any legitimate rescue organization)
There is a local non-newf rescue that has stepped in to help her and has secured the foster care until she can get things moving. I received a message stating that the other rescue is willing to assist but cannot afford the vet bills. I have no confirmation that the pups are under the care of a vet although I am told that they are.
I have urged H**** to please contact newf rescue and let them take over but it has met with resistance. She states "I know what I'm doing"
For all of you that consider helping ANY dog, newf or otherwise, get to a new home you must keep one very improtant thing in mind. You cannot legally transport ANY dog across state lines without a Certificate Of Health.
There's no way for this situation to go anywhere but south real fast....Please! DON'T TOUCH THAT DOG unless you know that a certificate of health will accompany that dog to its final destination. Spreading Parvo (or any other contagious disease) is not something you want to be a part of.

I worked in an animal hospital. I had to watch a puppy slowly die of Parvo. The owners signed it over to the mgr. since they didn't want to spend the $ for meds, IV therapy to support the dog to see if it would live. The mgr. did what she could, but by the second day I couldn't watch it anymore. I begged the mgr. and vets to take another look at the pup and they were unanimous he should be put down. Now just the word Parvo strikes fear in me.

Pups can be carriers without exhibiting signs of shedding the deadly virus and it can spread to others so quickly. I too have seen firsthand what parvovirus does to an untreated dog. It's heart wrenching.
It's such a contagious virus!!
To the best of my knowledge these two pups are currently positive for the virus and not necessarily shedding it.

It really irritates me to see someone posing as a 'rescue' and using volunteers to get something for themselves. If a local ligitimate rescue has the pups, why are they even working with her?

I think the key here is that these are puppies and there has been A LOT of fly by night people creating organizations to try and flip pups for money. Thats why most pups are removed from shelters very quick. Not just ligitimate organizations are helping them but individuals knowing they can sell them for money are running at the opportunity. We've had a couple of dogs come through our rescue that came from this situation. One was a mix and the other was actually a Newf, but when we contacted the supposed 'rescue' they flat told us they 'only work with puppies'. When I asked them about taking back the adult they placed as a puppy, they said 'we don't do that' and hung up on me. This told me very quickly what they were doing, and I'm seeing it more and more as this economy is making people desperate to make money.

I agree, the best thing for these pups, would be for a reputable organization to step in but unless you know where they are and who currently has them to step around her, there isn't much anyone can do. If they are under the care of a Vet, that bill needs paid. If the local rescue can't pay it, then they need to find someone who can, and thats probably where this woman is coming in, but they don't have to work with her.

Totally agree Susan.
The woman who contacted me via pm was sought by this H**** woman who asked for assistance in transporting. She told me they deal in "big fluffy dogs"
That's when I started to get really irritated. Upon further conversation is when it was revealed that.... And I quote.... " if we can't help arrange transport the pups will be PTS because she can't afford the vet bills"
No mention of what they're doing about the positive parvovirus when I inquired.
I've done all I can do to find out where they are currently. No one will tell me. I've pleaded for them to turn the pups over to newf rescue but she's not budging.
The story she's circulating all over FB is being copied and pasted by folks who want to help with transport and probably don't have a clue what is required by law. Their hearts are leading the way wanting to help.
I'm trying to reach as many as possible to put the word out there about these pups.

This is a horrible situation...Parvo will be spread everywhere... I don't think that woman can treat parvo in her home without veteranary assistance....I don't even want to see the word "PARVO" in print ! let alone get within miles of a contageous pup.

Is there something we can post on FB to help counter this woman's efforts? I would be willing to post to my page if someone were willing to write up something. I am originally from PA and most of my family still lives there so it could help spread the word. I just don't want to spread false information and that's why I would like someone knowledgeable to write up something.

We lost a pup to parvo 30 years ago. Even under a vet's care it was a horrible thing to witness.

There are several folks with "good intentions" and I have to admit that when I first saw the request for transport, I asked about the route and inquired when and where they needed legs filled. It was after that when it became clear thst this wasn't your routine rescue transport. I received a pm explaining it all and that's when the red flags started flying.
I plan on drafting something and posting it on FB shortly.
Any of you can feel free to copy and share.

Posted to my wall:
***RESCUE VOLUNTEERS*** if you receive a post regarding transport assistance from Alabama to Pennsylvania, BEWARE! These newf pups are parvovirus positive and may not be transported across state lines. A CERTIFICATE OF HEALTH must be obtained in order to do so legally. If you participate in transporting these two pups without the COH you risk spreading this deadly virus up the eastern seaboard.
To add, this is NOT a recognized Newfoundland Rescue Group. This is a private individual who pulled two pups from a shelter and is now trying to transport them to Pennsylvania. I was unsuccessful in convincing her to turn them over to Newf Rescue.

Sue...the warning is on page one of this thread...it's the very last post.

To copy and paste, you can click and highlight the whole thing (slide the mouse pointer over the area you want to copy...it'll turn blue, usually), then right click on your mouse and click copy (with the pointer on the highlighted area), then go to your FB page and in your status box, right click and then click paste.

When I was a kid, we lost my brother's pup to Parvo. fast. Was awful. A few years back my parent's lab had a litter and they lost many of the pups to Parvo. They live upstate from me, I didn't see it, just talked to my mom, as she cried on the phone. Awful. makes my blood run cold. I always tell new pup parents at the dog park about Parvo, and make sure they are fully vexed before they hang out. A few people have thanked me and left, not knowing about Parvo. nasty, nasty disease.
