Can you have just one?

We have had Brinkley for 4 months, this little "well he was little for a while" bundle of joy has changed everything. We had four furkids for several years and would always say we had to be nuts to have that many. Well now we have found that 3 is not enough. So we have decided that we should start the search for a little sister for Brinkley. We discussed this with the kids and each has a different point of view.

Brinkley...... He thinks it is a great idea and we should bring her home tomorrow.

Jacob (AKA Butter) ..... Not to keen on the idea, he loves his little brother, but just wonders why he keep shrinking since Brinkley showed up.
He will allow it, but she better not try to sleep on my bed or take any of my stuff, like this other black devil did.

Darby (AKA Mr. Bean) ......... :banghead: No way, not going to happen, are yall crazy, did you not see the mess that last one makes, he steals my stuff, grows like a weed, chewed up my favorite stuffy, slobbers everywhere, tries to push me around and the hair" he is like a shedding machine. You bring another black monster in this house and I am leaving. Pack my bag I am out of here. Heck he is only here 2 or 3 days a week and look how he has changed my peaceful life in to a never ending game of tug or wrestle. I am to old for this and now you expect me to raise another heathen, no way, count me out... ..... Did you say girl, well maybe if she is really nice looking and sweet. Hey, a cute girl around here might liven up the place. How about a cutie with a little color in her hair and a twinkle in her eye.

So the search is on, we are on the lookout for a new female Landseer "to make Mr. Bean happy, but not set in stone" puppy. I was not sure about how much of this could be discussed on here or how many questions I could ask but thought I would just let everyone know.

Good luck in your search....Here in Australia it can take up to a year to get a newf puppy, Landseer might even take longer :) Ronnie

Being that you know what life is like with 4 then I say Go for it!! For us, 2 is our limit. Last year I went through a phase where I felt like we should have a 3rd dog, I was presented with the chance to foster another Newfie, and I have never regretted that moment! One, it was so rewarding to help him, Two I realized very quickly that 2 was our number not 3! and that was a good thing to know before actually owning another one. We have 4 human children, 2 dogs, and 1 cat......sadly we recently lost our only fish "Trevor" after 1-1/2 years, sniff, sniiff (giggle, giggle).

Keep us posted!

We have two Newfs, two mini-newfs (cats who have spent way too much time around dogs) and - maybe, we'll be introducing a little girl newf here on NN in the coming days!

Go for it!!

No. You cannot have just one newf. Those who do must have wills of granite. Even if you have another dog, newfs together are different than newfs and other dogs.

You should come to a Newf gathering. You will see newfs greeting each other like long lost family. They lie butted against a newf they've never met before and seem perfectly happy with it. Toss a "different" dog into the gathering, and they all may stand up and bark at the intruder. I've seen it happen often. There's a special camaraderie among them.

I have just one newf :) We of course think about adding another but Gracie is just too old and physically unstable now for a puppy or an adult for that matter. I have to say that I love spoiling my one and only :)
Puppy pictures get to me and I have puppy fever quite frequently :D

Nope, believe me if you could we would have. My husband said before we got Apache NO MORE ANIMALS. I got Apache as a reward for losing weight. Then we got Beau and now Cole, so if you could only have one, my husband would have been the one who would have been able to do it.
