Best Vacuum

Hello all,

This may have already been talked about, I imagine it has. I searched and didn't see anything, so sorry for the repost in advance if it has been discussed.

Since I do not yet have rugs or carpeting in my new apartment, I have fur tumbleweeds. I have a pretty good dust buster but was waiting on buying a more expensive upright. I don't think I can wait any longer. I was thinking about getting a roomba robot vacuum but don't know how powerful it would be. As we all know, our lovely fur babies are also fur shedding monsters:devil:. What is the best vacuum you have invested in. In my case, I will be using it mostly on wood floors and some area rugs. Give your vacuum wisdom to me please!!

After many vacuum heartaches over the years I bought a Miele in 1999, it is wonderful, has only needed repair once and will be good for many more years I hope.

Incidently, here in Victoria very few stores will sell Dysons!!!! They have a poor reputation out here, don't know why.

I have the Roomba Pet Series 500-something. It is not worth it. It was great when it was just us and the two cats, and before Mila's puppy coat disappeared and matured into a true, shedding Newf coat. You will burn it out very quickly and the thing will stop every 5 minutes, beep loudly and tell you "Error. Please check the Roomba". You'll spend more time cleaning out the various components than sleeping. A waste of $400.

If you don't have carpets or rugs, I would highly recommend a Hoover Commercial Portapower. It has no bags, just a fabric bag that you dump out and can throw in the washing machine. Most commercial and residential cleaning services use them and I myself have had one for 9 years now. I've only had to replace a hose on it. It's damn near miraculous. http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-Commer...YRH6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316364367&sr=8-1

If you will have rugs in there in the future...Dyson Animal DC25 all the way. Hands down best vacuum for pets out there. It does very well on hard flooring and carpeting, though it just seems to flick cat litter around on the hardwood. I had a Simplicity before I got the Animal and a Simplicity is a very high quality, high end vacuum. No comparison to the Dyson.

Just bought a Dyson Animal after using an $800 Miele for years. I can't believe how much better the Dyson does on carpets. It's an upright with a telescoping wand that is a real pain to use. I now use 2 vacuums: Dyson for carpets, Miele for getting under furniture and dusting walls and baseboards. I wish the Dyson canister had better ratings - I far prefer canisters, but must admit I'd sold on the Dyson.

My Animal Dyson "died"....After multiple repairs and struggling with Dyson as a company I have gone back to Wertheim...This one is bag less and has also got a powerhead. it is easier to handle, compared to the Dyson. And has awesome suction. And most of all, it has great back-up. A five year warranty and i had a previous one, before the Dyson that was 20 years old. I got rid of it, because it had bags. It was still going at the time.

I have a Rainbow and purchased it when I was 18 or 19, so it's about 20 something years old now and still going strong and when this one goes I will purchased another without blinking an eye. Never had to fix other than 1 attachement. Wish I would have purchased the shampooer with it.

I have a Dyson that I love, but I also have a little Sharp upright that is about 10 years old and will still suck the carpet up off the floor. I paid about 200.00 for it. Best vacuum I've ever had..

shop vac for the dust bunnies, a small / lightweight dirt devil for the rugs - we finally got rid of all the carpets for hardwood tile and rugs.

We also have a Dyson Animal, I think it is 6 years old now? This year we had to put a new motor in it, works like a new vac. I love my Dyson. I do have to clean the beater bar every time I use it, though. :)

shop vac....seriously. you can get the mini ones for around 40 CND. For my hardwood and tile nothing beats my shop vac for suction.

Shop vac!!! We have LOTS of cats, so I need something that will handle fur/hair and cat litter. And no way I'm going to clean a beater bar after every use! Not gonna happen! Shop vacs are powerful, hold A LOT, easy to dump and are cheap!

I also have a Eureka something-or-other that I use on the area rugs, but we have concrete flooring throughout, so the shop vac gets more use.

My other favorite hard-floor cleaning tool is the Norwex dry mop! Unbelievable the amount of hair that thing finds! I find I use that more than the shop vac even. It won't "grab" the cat litter, but I can push everything to one area and either suck it up with the shop vac or sweep into a dust pan. Love my Norwex mop!!!

I too love my dyson although there are lots of people who don't. One thing I have noticed is that on bare floors it sometimes sticks too close to the floor and pushes stuff ahead of it. I simply lift a corner a little bit and everything gets sucked up. You do have to clean the beater bar, but you would have to do that on any vacuum that had one. Stuff will just wrap around.

Also, with just Koda, you won't have to clean the beater bar every time you use it. I clean out my beater bar once a week (and I vacuum 1-2 times a day) and only takes 30 seconds or so. (I cheat by using scissors to cut the wound up dog hair and pull it out in one swift motion. Very easy when you cheat!) I also tend to obsessively groom Mila though, so if you don't brush Koda once daily like I do Mila, you may have to clean out your beater bar more often.

Dyson DC17 Animal. It's awesome on everything, even high things.

For ONLY carpets without having to worry about attachments (which it has far too many which are difficult to attach), I LOVE my Kirby. It's by far the best I've ever used. But it's heavy (it's made of steel), cumbersome, has bags and is just a PITA.

I do use it for really deep cleaning/vacuuming the carpet in the LR, but nothing else. I use the Dyson for everything.

I'm thinking for now I'm going to go the shopvac/industrial vacuum route since I do not have any rugs just yet. I have my eyes on a Dyson Animal but, dang! That thing is expensive! At least I know what to put on my vacuum wish list, it seems like the reviews are outstanding!

I like my dyson a lot..but don't waste your money on that pet attachment with a Newf in mind lol. TOTAL waste of money.
