Bentley and Seamus

Many thanks to all who offered wisdom on how to deal with the two boys fighting. I became extra vigilant and I can say there hasn't been one fight since. I'm not expecting miracles and am working on training, training, training and know they can still fight.

The boys have actually started to play together!!!! I can't even believe it. SEAMUS will initiate play with Bentley. For some reason, all is peaceful here.

Bentley is doing so well, you'd never know that two months ago all he knew was a pen. He is leash trained, house broken, goes up ramps and stairs and doing so well with obedience training. He is eating food....he'll only eat ProPlan, but he is eating and is eating treats as well. He loves bully sticks and toys ( I separate them when giving them bullies) and he LOVES sleeping on a bed. He looks forward to going to our mini orchard outback and getting his favorite Asian pears when I return from work. He goes nuts over them!

He is not the sharpest tool in the shed, but definitely is the most loving thing around. My husband adores him. He keeps talking about missing him when he finds a home. There has been no response from rescue yet, so I think he may be staying anyway. Good thing they are getting along.

The only thing he does that reminds me of his former life is the nutty circling when he's loose out in our front yard. That hasn't really lessened yet, but we are working on it.

Photobucket won't upload the photos I wanted to show you of Bentley at the beach and at Doggie Bootcamp, so when I can get it to work, I'll share them.

Just wanted to let you know how he was doing.

Thanks for all the support!

Just admit you can't live without him and be done with it! LOL! Happy for everyone that the boys are becoming buds.
As far as the circling is concerned, I have no personal experience. I have, however, read that dogs that have been kept in a small space may circle because that's the only way to entertain themselves or out of nervousness. Maybe if you try to distract him with a toy or something it may eventually break the habit for him.

Thanks for the update on him. I was just wondering how they were doing and I am so glad to hear they are doing well! :)

What has the vet said about the circling? I have heard many do that with ear infections. Here was just a post I came across.

Lupus can cause it too. Is there any possiblility it could be medical or do they think it is purely behavioral?

PS... We're meeting them at OC, MD this year... right? :D

Sue, I'm so happy that things have improved and the two of them are actually enjoying one another now.

I think he needs to stay. It would be hard on everyone if he left. :)

And I shall call her Maeve.

And it looks like both Seamus and Bentley will be making an appearance at OC this year.

After all the hard work..the times you've almost pulled your hair out...you'll be a foster failure for sure!! You can't get all that accomplished and let him go! You won'rt be able too and neither will the DH. Seamus will never forgive you either...You may as well call rescue..tell em you failed and failed miserably..

I'm so glad to hear that the boys are getting along better! Great work!

I can say, too, that Angus has finally played with Bishop without threatening to rip his head off. It only took 10 months.

glad to hear everything is going more smoothly.

Check out for a medical problem for the circling but it could still just be a stress relief thing as Beau used to pace up and down the garden until he finally figured he was staying

Very glad to hear that Bentley has made an impact on your husband! Hope he gets to stay with you guys - it sounds like you're doing a hell of a job working with Seamus and Bentley - Suse you rock.

Gee, thanks. I don't think it's more than any of you would have done. I really think Seamus and Bentley are the heros here!

I am so looking forward to meeting all of you and yours at OC....be ready though....I'm bringing these two guys all by myself...with the help of a 13 year old niece. When she found out there would be so many newfs, she told me I HAD to bring her! I can't wait for her to meet Frankie!
