Well this week I made some rookie mistakes, leaving my newborn's diapers in a bag on the floor and heading out to run a quick errand. We came home (on Sunday evening) to find diapers torn up all over the living room/couches (actually, our landlord was installing a new washing machine, so HE came to our house to find this mess...before we did). Gilly, I'm sure, had the time of her life, as she LOVES tearing things up plus these had delicious human baby poop in them. Monday she poops out a bunch of diaper beads and is none the wiser that she did anything bad, and she's feeling fine. Then, Tuesday I go out again and this time she gets into the bathroom garbage (which is a small open-top can, and she has always had "access" to it and NEVER taken anything out of it. Well she got into it and had more "fun" tearing things up and feeling fine until yesterday afternoon when she started throwing up. She was still eating and drinking and energy level same as usual so I thought maybe something she ingested had just given her an upset tummy. What a tiring night, between feeding a newborn every 2-3 hours and cleaining up dog barf in between (i washed my hands, don't worry). She continued to throw up every few hours until this morning when she first refused cheese, but then happily ate her breakfast then threw that up too. We were scheduled to have her spayed tomorrow (Friday) but with her throwing up I decided to take her in today. So after x-rays, sure enough there is something in her stomach that hasn't been pooped out or thrown up. So spay has been moved to this afternoon, along with removal of the "obstruction" and a gastropexy. *Sigh* Oh Gilly. This doesn't leave me feeling like a very good dog mum, and a very tired human mum. In my defense though, she has been getting her walks and lots of attention, but still probably less than before her baby furless brother came along. Please keep her (and me!) in your thoughts/prayers for her big surgical day today.
